Supporting All Learning Styles
Funded May 10, 2024This year, I was able to loop up with my class from Kindergarten to First grade. It has been amazing to watch them quickly adjust to first grade and remember our routines and procedures. The addition of wobble chairs, kick bands and chew necklaces has been a game-changer for my diverse learners. These students are able to focus with their physical needs being met.
In addition to the items, my students understand the responsibility that comes along with these new items in our classroom. Students who utilize a chew necklace know to put it away in a plastic bag and back in their cubby daily. All of the wobble stools are kept on the back counter and seat cushions are stored in a cubby. Students take these responsibilities of keeping our classroom clean and our items put away very seriously.
I am always thankful for the support of donor's from Donor's Choose. I am excited about coming to work. I adore my students and hope they feel the same about me. My district has solid curriculum and my school is always pushing to learn more about how to best teach students.
Thank you again for your support of my classroom,”

Funded Jan 24, 2023Mr. Roger's famously once said, "Play is often talked about as if it were a relief from serious learning. But for children play IS serious learning. Play is really the work of childhood." With this in mind, the engineering toys that your donations purchased have been the serious learning in my my classroom for the last few weeks. Our force and motion unit came alive with ramps, ladders and building structures.
Similarly, our geometry unit was transformed into a hands on unit with the addition of building three dimensional shapes. Students were able to create shapes instead of simply describing them or identifying how many corners and sides.
With many students (and adults) in front of a screen for learning and entertainment, these hands-on manipulatives have been a welcome addition to my classroom. My kindergarten students enjoy the opportunity to play as they learn.”

All the Small Things
Funded Dec 3, 2019Thank you for supporting my "all the small things" project. This project included day-to-day items such as batteries and zip-lock bags and bigger items such as updated headphones and additional creative classroom seating. It takes a mix of office supplies and fun colorful furniture and special items to make a classroom run smoothly.
My students use batteries for our listening center during Daily 5 every day. They use the new headphones with our classroom computers also. The headphones provided at my school are 20 years old and hurt my students' heads.
My classroom is a fun and inviting space thanks to the extras provided by my Donor's Choose projects. I appreciate your support.

Funded May 23, 2018Thank you for your support of my project which is currently supporting my students in the areas of literacy, art and music. During my years as a kindergarten teacher, I've discovered that students are more engaged in a lesson if they are engaged with their bodies, brains, fingers and voices. The supplies you helped purchase for my classroom allows students to engage all of these aspects of their bodies when learning.
My students are using the shape stencils and stickers in our math unit about geometry. They are able to create pictures with the shapes which helps us talk about their attributes which is a Kindergarten standard.
In the spring, we will make masks to go along with our fairy tale unit. We then get to perform reader's theater. Your support helps expand the activities my students are able to do.”

Funded May 20, 2016My kindergarten students are starting to adjust to life in elementary school which means they get to explore the new art supplies purchased through my Donor's Choose project. I've been slowly introducing new mediums through our inquiry stations. We always have a guiding question- can you paint your own portrait? What can you create with washi tape? How is one paint different than another? What is different about oil pastels? These questions challenge my students to really investigate and think about their new art supplies.
Today, my students wrote their first initial in white crayon and then painted over them with water colors. Many of them were confused that we were using white crayon on white paper but the mystery was quickly revealed. It's a little chaotic to do a painting project with 21 five-year-olds, but I was very unconcerned with making a mess and more with them enjoying the project. Many students came to me very worried over spilled paint. I explained that sometimes art is messy and we can always clean it up.
It's still early in the year and so we haven't explored all of our new materials. We also have wiki sticks and craft sticks that we will use to create letters. Canvases that will create memorable holidays gifts for our parents and foam shapes and washi tape will help bring our math lessons to life. I truly believe that adding a little spice- paint, foam stickers, wiki sticks and oil pastels- to our every day lessons will help capture my students' interest and attention.”
