  • Resource Students Need Hands-On Learning

    Funded Dec 14, 2011

The Resource Students of City Terrace Elementary are having a great time learning the letter and blend sounds with hands-on activities that a fun and memorable for the all!!!! We expect our tubs of learning fun are going to be a part of the Learning Center for many years to come. Playing initial sound Bingo and Mystery Item Grab Bag are just a few of the memorable ways to help us learn to read. Already the students fight to open the tubs and learn the names of items such as A for an acorn or fl for flag. The memory of each item and the sounds associated with each every letter is making a real difference for our students in the Resource Learning Center at City Terrace Elementary. Thank you!!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. M.

As a Resource Teacher I work with students with learning challenges who range from Kindergarten to 5th grade. My students are Latinos and come from low social economic backgrounds. Their access to home computers are limited as well as their opportunities to venture out of their local community. I am always looking to differentiate their instruction in order to work directly with each student's disability which varies widely from Autism, ADHD, OHI to SLD. It is so necessary to plan lessons that involve a variety of activities. Project based learning and self-determined engagement activities are part of that model. These activities require access to a variety of resources that range from computers, hands-on focus labs, field trips to cross-discipline activities. A major limitation or frustration is my inability to provide all the tools necessary to make their learning more accessible and authentic.
