Having access to PCR equipment will allow biology students to process DNA samples, interpret results, and apply their findings to real-world applications including cancer research, genetic fingerprinting, and cloning. Oftentimes, the content in high school biotechnology curriculum is skimmed over because schools do not have access to resources. However, if we are going to progress with meeting the needs of society and solving problems like finding a cure for cancer, it's imperative that we equip our students with the skills and desire to creatively and effectively investigate such areas. Immersing students in real-world science practices in the high school setting will encourage them to think about ways they can positively impact society in the future.
