  • Generation Z Blast Off Technology

    Funded Oct 23, 2017

The light at the end of tunnel has been lighter than ever before. Due to your generosity, the extra technology within the classroom (The iPad's) are amazing. The students can now complete extension activities that help build foundational skills. The impact of this technology has been quite significant. With the widespread of adoption technology my small group has completely changed how my students retain and interact with the text. As my students learn how to utilize the technology to gain knowledge, as the instructor I am learning the importance of using advanced technology to shape how my students learn.

By embracing and integrating technology within my classroom, I am setting my students up for a successful life outside of school. My students prefer interactive learning because they believe it makes learning more interesting and fun. They especially like the iPad's; since Reading is a subject deemed challenging or boring. With the iPad's my students say the interaction is more interesting with the virtual lesson and video's.

I want to thank you for assisting in helping me build future leaders of tomorrow. With the purchase of the iPad's my students can learn at their own pace. For example, almost all the apps allow for individualized instruction. My students can learn per their abilities and needs. This form of teaching is great for me as the teacher because it gives me time to work individually with some students who may be struggling, while others are engaged with the assistive technology.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Dinkins

  • Socratic Questioning: Changing Minds

    Funded Jul 15, 2016

    Thank You Beyond Measure!!

Pardon my delay, the school year has been off to a rocky start, but needless to say we are off to great beginnings. The teachers that have been assigned to the school this year have a variety of needs from a coaches perspective. Yet, they have all shown a willingness to crave for the thing all educators want. The knowledge and ability to engage learners and create critical thinkers for tomorrow. With the new addition to study material via the material purchased through your generous contributions.

The video clip that I have provided for you is our third grade gifted students engaged in a Socratic discussion using the Junior Great Books curriculum for gifted students, and the teacher is using the techniques she has learned within the Critical thinking book you have provided for us.

I want to thank you so much for all that you have done!!

Oh, by the way.... we have been risen to 3pts from a "B" school, we had 69% in student gains, 65% in the lowest 25% making gains, and an overall of 55% proficiency. This year I am aiming for 80% student gains, 85% Lowest 25% making gains and 65% proficiency overall. That should put our school at an "A" school.

With your help, we WILL succeed!!! I will keep you posted!!! I would love want keep you guys updated all year, my personal email is preincess.dinkins4501@gmail.com. I would love for you guys to meet the teachers if you live in the Miami area.

    Thank You so much again!!!!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Dinkins

The use of individualized computer-based learning is a detrimental element within the 90 minute learning block. Through computer-based learning within the differentiated instructional block, students receive one-on-one instruction catered to their cognitive abilities. All students are provided 20 minutes of small group instruction on the computer. Research has proven that groups limited to six (6) students are more effective, when building student deficiencies and targeting students’ unique learning styles and academic needs. Through the usage of iPad's and educational mobile apps used to boost achievement, differentiated instruction with a technology component just made teaching easier. The iPad's allow students to engaged in personalized instruction. For example, teachers would put 2–3 students on the iPad, have them take a diagnostic, and then spend 15–20 minutes working with another group of students individually in small groups. Then students would go back to i-Ready to continue instruction and practice on what they learned. Each week students spent approximately an hour using the iPad's during the instructional block.
