It is not easy for children to ignore differences that they notice in others, in fact children are very honest about. This reaction easily turns into bullying or alienating others. My students need high interest books that will help them develop tolerance to differences. Exposure to the unknown is what my students need to prepare them for new encounters. In my classroom you can find difference amongst the students such as skin color, culture, traditions, and religion. My students are not cruel however their reaction to disabilities, medical needs, culture, religion, deformity, physical impairment, or skin color can truly hurt others. I would like to help my students develop acceptance of differences. Most importantly I would like my students to be courageous and make friends regardless of any differences.
