  • Lights, Camera, Learn!

    Funded Aug 9, 2022

Thank you so much for supporting my classroom. The Polaroid camera has come in handy for our welcome wall and also with little gifts and cards that families can enjoy too. The students are also happy because they can take their own pictures and enjoy the automatic outcome of a developed picture! Also, the computer desk has been a great addition to our classroom where students can learn how to type properly and know how to sit at a desk for apps such as typing club and during state testing. These typing skills will carry with them into their high school and adult life. Thank you again for supporting my classroom.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Hickey

  • Successful in Second Grade!

    Funded Aug 12, 2021

This funded project excited the students with new math games and made it possible for them to learn and play independently after work time. They loved using the life-like materials to add, subtract and play with. The pocket chart helped the whole class learn letter sounds, blends, and vowel teams by using the chart as a hands-on whole group lesson. For example, the students received sounds cards and were able to match or group the long and short vowel sounds by placing them in the correct column on the pocket chart. Used daily, this helps build confidence in learning and makes it fun!”

  • Help Keep The Focus!

    Funded Jun 15, 2020

Thank you for your gracious donations to my wobble chairs. I have used wobble chairs before and they are a great asset to the classroom. They help our more "delicate" students to be able to swing, sway, and rock as their focus stays on their work I assign. For this year, I have not been able to use these as the students are not in person, however, I know the impact that they serve as a teacher who is trying their best to reach all students at all levels. They are a great addition to my everyday teacher tools!”

  • Worldy And Wise!

    Funded May 11, 2020

I am excited every two weeks to receive my class set of Scholastic Magazines. We have pick-ups for the students about every three weeks, so I just send home the magazines in their packets and then we discuss them the next day. I have them choose a paragraph or story from the magazines that they have heard of, makes them think, or just something they think is cool or interesting! They love writing about the stories in their journals. It is a nice morning activity for them to complete. They are not graded on their entries, but rather it is used as a reflection of what is going on in the world today. They love the magazines and the journals and so do I! It is their "me time" to just write how they feel. It is a great addition to my daily routine.”

  • Organization And Quiet Time At Its Finest!

    Funded Nov 12, 2019

Thank you for contributing to my "Organization and Quiet Time At Its Finest!" project. Our classroom has changed dramatically and I could not have done it without you! Before the ear buds, our room was loud and hard for any students asking for help to complete their class work. Also, it was a HUGE distraction for them to not want to see what their classmates next to them were doing on their computers. Now, we have a quiet room, students can get their work done whether it is on the computer or not, and we are CAASP test ready! Thank you so much! By the way, the students love the color coded ear bud holders! I cannot thank you enough!”

  • Help! Our Books are a Mess!

    Funded Jun 6, 2016

Thank you so much for the donation of book boxes to our classroom! Time spent getting their boxes and reading at their desk or chosen special spot has decreased tremendously. The students enjoy keeping their books neat and tidy in the large sturdy boxes. I no longer have to repair the boxes which used to take time away from my teachings.

The students love their brand new book boxes and are excited to go book shopping each week. It has also taught them the importance of keeping a belonging of theirs neat, clean, and organized. It's a form of responsibility which is a life long skill!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Hickey

Every day I teach my students something new to try in reader's workshop and they eagerly go off on their own to read independently. Yet our book boxes need help! They are made of flimsy material, get broken very easily, and books fall through them everyday. My blossoming readers need sturdier supplies so they can concentrate on reading and not fixing their book box every day. Help us get long lasting materials so each year my students can use these multiple times a day to go book shopping with ease. Multiple times a day, a hear a student say, "Ms. Hickey! my books fell through again. I need duct tape!" So instead of helping my growing readers, I am taping the weak book boxes at least twice a week.
