  • Soaring High With Drones

    Funded Dec 17, 2021

My STEAM club students were sooo excited to see the drones arrive! At first, the students were excited to just get to fly them. Over time, there have been many unexpected learning opportunities the students have gained.

For example, when we take the drones outside the students can now look at the forecast and assess the wind speed to determine if flying will be an issue. We have turned this into lessons about commercial flying. Additionally, the students have leaped into problem-solving mode when small problems have prevented flying. The students immediately start researching the issue and work through solutions until the problem is fixed.

Thank you so much for your generous donation that has impacted my students in ways that I did not even see when I originally posted the project.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Washington

  • STEMing Into Action!

    Funded May 3, 2021

As we transitioned back into in-person learning, my students had such a great experience building their robots. When they first saw the huge Amazon box they were so surprised and when I told them kind humans who just want you to succeed donated them they were so grateful.

We received enough robots that everyone could build their own. Some the aspects of the build were quite challenging for the students. They had to precisely follow instructions and use their knowledge about circuits to get them moving.

The students actively supported one another if they got stuck so allowing them to build also provided an opportunity for team work. This project went great and the students are excited about learning and looking forward to what's coming next.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Washington

  • Caring During COVID-19

    Funded Aug 19, 2020

Thank you for your generous donations to my students. Because of your giving we were able to make lemonade out of lemons. With students doing virtual learning this school year, many do not have access to the same resources and materials as when they are in school.

Your donations made it possible for students whose families were severely impacted financially by COVID, able to take part in academic activities due to the materials they received from this project being funded.

'We are all in this together' could not be more accurate to describe the times we are in. When teachers and students are all stuck behind computer screens, people like you let us know we still matter. Again, thank you so much for your kindness. Because of you students have already been directly impacted by your giving.”

    With gratitude,

  • Graphing Towards Success

    Funded Dec 20, 2019

We want you to know how much we appreciate your gift a graphing calculator for our student. Your gift will allow a hard-working, high-achieving student to continue to be competitive in math when they transition into high school and beyond.

At times when our students get to high school they do not have the resources needed to do work at home. This puts them at a huge disadvantage that you have helped take away. Thank you for your donation. You have truly made a direct impact on one of our young scholars lives!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Washington

This classroom project was brought to life by Verizon and one other donor.
  • Technology Needed to Change Students Lives

    Funded Feb 1, 2019

We want to make sure how much we appreciate your gift of chromebooks and graphing calculators for our students. Your gift will allow students to be competitive in this ever changing technological world.

Our students a lot of times don't have the resources or income to get their own laptops. At times when our students get to high school they do not have the technology needed to do work at home. This puts them at a huge disadvantage that you have helped take away.

This will allow our students to compete and do well in high school and beyond.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Washington

Our students at the Middle School of Pleasantville operate under our school motto where “Everyone is a learner, everyone is a teacher, and everyone is a leader!” As a teacher in this low-income/high poverty school district I am amazed, and humbled, by the obstacles my students overcome daily in order to be successful students. In addition to being a classroom teacher I am also the 8th grade class advisor and have the awesome opportunity to celebrate our wonderful students for their academic achievements during our annual awards ceremony. During this ceremony students who have achieved academic excellence throughout the school year, including high academic standing and acceptance into the National Junior Honor Society, are celebrated and rewarded. My goal is to be able to gift the top ten highest academic achievers with laptops or chromebooks so they can continue to work hard and achieve their goals as they transition into high school. The majority of our students’ families can not afford these devices which leave the students at a disadvantage because their time to study and complete assignments is limited. The opportunity to provide these students with laptops or chromebooks will prevent them from falling victims to the digital divide and ultimately losing prime opportunity to advance in highschool and into college.
