Dog Man Book Club Upgraded for Middle School!
Funded Dec 6, 2024I am incredibly grateful for your generosity in supporting our book club project through DonorsChoose! Because of your kindness, I was able to bring together a fantastic group of 6th through 8th graders who eagerly joined our optional lunch-period book club, drawn in by the wildly popular Dog Man series to read Dog Man: The Scarlet Shedder.
Beyond just enjoying the humor and adventure of Dog Man, we used the book as a springboard for deeper discussions about judgment and consequences—key themes that also appear in The Scarlet Letter. Students were fascinated to learn that Dog Man was inspired by these same ideas, and reading excerpts from Hawthorne's novel alongside it sparked thoughtful conversations.
To take our exploration even further, we studied and analyzed the artwork in the manga adaptation of The Scarlet Letter, allowing students to compare and contrast storytelling styles across different formats. This multi-layered approach helped them see that literature, art, and storytelling are deeply connected across time and genres, making for an enriching and eye-opening experience.
Your support did more than just provide books—it created opportunities for students to engage critically, think creatively, and develop a deeper appreciation for literature. Thank you for making this possible! Your generosity has truly made a lasting impact, and I am so grateful.”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Cummings
