I am a second year teacher in a school district in a low socioeconomic area. I spent my first year taking note as to what is REALLY needed in class to be the most successful as a whole and individual. Everything that is purchased is done so out of pocket by myself. There is a little reimbursement from the district, but on approved items only. I have to purchase my own toner ink for my printer that I purchased myself. Because of the poverty stricken area, the PTO only has about five consistent parents who help be the voice of our teachers. Most of the items I am asking for are grade versatile. I can use them with any grade level I am assigned. As of right now, we share calculators and white boards with the other sixth grade classes. This works for the time being, however, both classes would benefit greatly from having their own set to use each day. I noticed a huge improvement with my students last year when they were able to use calculators to help with the simple computation of math. Most of my students were so focused on the computation that they were not able to focus on the new lesson at hand. Since we had to share the white boards we were not able to use them for their full function in all areas of learning. This will be a daily routine for check in of subject matter retention. Both classes would benefit from the social studies games for early finishers. Even though it says for grades 3-5, it will be a great tool for review of what has happened in the world. The art supplies will be very much appreciated as we barely have enough for a class set.
