My students thrive when tackling research & writing projects using Chromebooks and Google apps for our American History & Current Events Blog Project. Currently, our school has only been able to purchase a class set of Chromebooks per department (i.e. Language Arts, Science, etc.) There are currently ten Language Arts teachers who struggle to reserve a class set in a timely manner to coincide with their class projects. This greatly limits when and for how long my students have access to a Chromebook; it actually prevents us from completing a significant amount of our blog project each year. With at least a half-class set, one Chromebook for every two students to share as a team, we might actually be able to finish our year-long blog projects, in addition to more individual multi-media class presentations! Students seem to morph into mature, aspiring researchers & writers when they have a Chromebook as a tool. It's an odd phenomena, how they moan, groan, and resist thinking and writing when using pencil and paper. I believe it has to do with the modern mode of expression being digital, and they want to participate like everyone else. It makes sense to provide the tools that they love to use, in order to get them to love what they can produce with those tools!
