  • Books Please!

    Funded Dec 4, 2023

I wanted to take a moment to extend my heartfelt gratitude for your generous donation of books to our classroom. Your kindness and support mean more than words can express.

Your donation has already had a significant impact on our students' education and love for reading. Your contribution not only enriches our curriculum but also fosters a lifelong love of learning. The books have been flying off shelves.. Your generosity will make a lasting difference in the lives of countless children, opening doors to new worlds and endless possibilities through the pages of these books.

Once again, thank you for your generosity and support. Your kindness has touched our hearts and made a positive impact on our classroom. We are deeply grateful for your thoughtful donation and look forward to sharing the joy of reading with our students for years to come.”

    With gratitude,

    Teacher JORDAN

This classroom project was brought to life by A family that cares about Boston and one other donor.
  • Solve the Problem Together

    Funded Nov 6, 2017

To start, I would like to thank you for donating to my students. We were able to purchase lock boxes, locks, UV lights, and other supplies to help make our interactive "Escape the Room" style activity. It was so fun to see the students interacting with a classic short story in such a current and exciting activity. I could not have done this without your generosity.

When I envisioned this project, I had no idea how enthusiastic my students would be. The supplies added a layer of mystery which intrigued every student in my classroom. Kids were shouting out answers and searching my room for the next clue. The most rewarding part was students that normally gave up at the first sign of struggle preserved through confusion, wrong choices, and challenging questions. I could include high level questions because they did not give up. They really wanted to unlock those boxes!

You have brought a hands-on, creative activity that allows a high level of engagement with your generosity. I have already reached out to other teachers in my school to share these resources. You have impacted hundreds of students and I thank you so very much.”

    With gratitude,

    Teacher JORDAN

  • A Reading Explosion

    Funded Aug 16, 2016

    Dear Donors,

Despite being a teacher for 10 years, I realized many of my students were not falling in love with books the way I do. For so long I thought as they often think: you are either born to love reading or you are born to hate reading. All that changed when I stumbled upon a professional teaching text, Reading in the Wild, by Donnalyn Miller. It was as if someone pulled a blindfold off my eyes. All kids can love reading if we treat books the same in school as we do in the "real world". Instead of photocopying short stories from a text book , I started allowing students to choose their own books, recommend books for other students, and put books in MY hands. Students started teaching me and that love and excitement was contagious. We have brief book talks modeled in the way adults would mention titles to each other. Long gone are my days of worksheets and forced titles.

Your donation has allowed students to read more current and high interest books.”

    With gratitude,

    Teacher JORDAN

I teach 100 7th grade students of various levels and interests. They are young enough to buy into the excitement of learning, but old enough to exchange remarkable ideas. They are the kindest group of kids you could ever meet. Many don't have books in their homes and wait to see what books I have so they can read. I have had students who struggle in every subject discover a series he loves. He begged me to buy specific books for my classroom library, and the look on his face was priceless when I did!
