13 of my 19 children live in single family homes and 7 of them have a food backpack sent home every weekend. Our school population works hard, but comes to school with a lot of outside baggage that is out of their control. As always, high test scores are something that are district strives for, so I have been researching methods that I can use into my classroom to make kids feel safe, secure, nurtured, willing to take a risk, and in the future, hoping that they are able to achieve more. This year I have been spending a lot of time learning about ACEs (adverse childhood experiences) and the impact that these experiences can have on my students.
