In the spring semester of the last school year, many teachers and their students found themselves profoundly unprepared for the onset of distance learning as the new normal. Educators who developed the capacity to engage students as individuals and inspire learning found their proverbial toolboxes lacking resources suited to the current unfortunate circumstances. As a result, the instruction some students have received has been far from dynamic, with many teachers - even seasoned educators - relying on text and video conferencing as a facsimile of the kind of teaching they long for. The freedom to capture an immersive environment - with the the help of the Ricoh Theta V camera - presents the potential to explore dynamic avenues of instruction that transform the confines of distance learning into expansive opportunities. They will be able to collectively travel to settings that invite them to survey their own communities; the spaces they visit in their own city will cast them as virtual participants in walks of life that may be unfamiliar to them. Engaging perspectives and decision-making role play offer the chance to stray from the solid state of a video conference in pursuit of the source of their own wonder and curiosity.
