  • Words That Empower: Enhancing Communication Skills in Our School!

    Funded Dec 3, 2024

Since incorporating play-based therapy into our sessions, my students have made progress in their articulation skills. Rather than traditional drill-based practice, they now engage in meaningful and enjoyable activities that encourage natural speech. For example, while building with MagnaTiles, they eagerly describe their structures using targeted speech sounds, making articulation practice feel like a fun challenge rather than a task. Their language skills have also improved, especially in categorization and descriptive abilities. During category games, they can now confidently group items based on features. Additionally, their symbolic play skills have flourished. They have been combining toys like MagnaTiles, cars, and farm animals to create imaginative scenes. These improvements show that play-based therapy not only makes speech practice more engaging but also strengthens their overall communication and cognitive development. Thank you for all of your generous donations.”

  • Learning Through Play in Speech Therapy

    Funded Feb 20, 2023

I hope this message finds you all well. I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you to everyone who donated to our project (Learning Through Play in Speech Therapy). I am extremely grateful to you for your generous donation. Your donations played an important role in enhancing educational experiences for my students. With the support received, several items were obtained, including a Teachers Pay Teachers gift card, a building STEM toy, a sensory bin, and various educational games. My students' faces lit up with excitement when they saw the new materials. It was truly heartwarming to witness their enthusiasm as they dove into the activities.

The Teachers Pay Teachers gift card has been extremely helpful in allowing me to access a wide range of bilingual speech therapy resources that are tailored to the individual needs of my students. The resources obtained from Teachers Pay Teachers have supplemented our therapy sessions and provided targeted activities and worksheets to address specific speech and language goals. Furthermore, The inclusion of educational games has further enriched the speech therapy experience. Games offer a fun and interactive approach to learning, making therapy sessions engaging and motivating for students. These games have targeted specific speech and language goals, such as phonological awareness, vocabulary expansion, sentence structure, responding to wh questions and problem-solving skills. Through gameplay, clients have developed their communication skills while having a great time, fostering a positive and productive therapeutic environment.

Once again, thank you for your donations. The donated resources have provided invaluable tools for addressing speech and language goals, enhancing therapy sessions, and facilitating the growth and development of my students. I am truly grateful for their support.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. NFernandez

  • The Power of Speech Therapy

    Funded Mar 1, 2022

Thank you for your donation. These resources have benefitted my students and supported them in reaching their speech and language goals. Using activities such as the fox in the box has allowed me to introduce a fun twist when working on concepts such as following directives and spatial concepts. When my students first saw the new materials, they were excited and felt enthusiastic about coming to speech. Materials such as the kinetic sand has also allowed us to use a multi-sensory approach to learning. Thank you once again for everything that you have done.”

  • The Power of Speech Therapy COVID-19 Edition

    Funded Nov 9, 2020

Thank you so much for another project funded! The teachers pay teachers materials were an amazing addition to our speech groups. I was even able to obtain bilingual speech and language materials which are extremely difficult to find. These resources have even allowed my bilingual students to have a vast variety of materials including readings that they could used to target their speech goals. During such a challenging year due to Covid-19, my students were able to continue to feel engaged, laugh and learn due to your donations.

Thanks again for all of your support!”

  • Expanding Expressions! Giving students a voice!

    Funded Jan 29, 2018

Thank you very much for your generous donation. My students have demonstrated progress using the Expanding Expression Toolkit. They have been working on expanding their responses to include more descriptions such as the category of an object, action, what it looks like, what it's made of, among other descriptions. My students have surprised themselves in that they can provide a response that is more than 1-2 sentences in length. They are now responding using 1 or more paragraphs. They are excited to continue using the EET to expand their verbal and written expression. They were thrilled when they saw the toolkit. They specifically loved the beads as they could use it to facilitate their response. We are truly grateful and look forward to continue using this product to not only describe objects but to also expand responses pertaining to autobiographies, biographies and summaries. Thank you once again.”

  • Bringing Books to Life

    Funded Apr 13, 2017

I cannot thank you enough for your support. My students were elated when I informed them that our project was fully funded. Hip Hip Hooray. The Dual Language Story sets that we received have made such an impact on my students throughout the year. Using these books, my students have been able to read and respond to questions in Spanish and English. These books have been essential when introducing skills such as inferencing, cause/effect, and summarizing. Furthermore, using the laminator, we have been able to create story prompts which students love during story retell. Reading and retelling in the speech room has drastically improved. Students are no longer learning to read but they are now reading to learn. They have found a love for reading. Seeing books in their native language has been a great factor in this. The alphabet mats and playdough have given my prek students and kindergarten students a better grasp of phonemic awareness skills. Coupling this fun activity with the phonemic awareness program allows students to better understand and retain concepts learned.

Most of my students are really enjoying these new books and thriving, however, I've noticed that some students are struggling with tasks such as describing. I'm so thankful for your generous donation. With your help, I know my students continue to thrive. Thanks again!”

  • Accessing The Curriculum Through Speech Therapy

    Funded Oct 11, 2016

Thank you very much to all of the donors who made this possible. The materials obtained through donors choose have been used with students who struggle in the areas of receptive and expressive language skills. These resources have been used with students from varying grades e.g. Pre-K through Middle School. The language learning center for common core standards and reading informational text learning center for common core standards has allowed me to provide my students with various examples and models when reading informational texts. During this short time, some of the students have demonstrated improvement when identifying the main idea, supporting details, and comparing and contrasting information from the passage. Furthermore, the toobaloo has been beneficial for 4 students who I work with that stutter. They use the toobaloo to hear themselves and make modifications to their speech productions. The toobaloo is coupled with strategies practiced during speech therapy such as easy onset. Overall , the materials obtained have been extremely beneficial when targeting vocabulary, following directions, fluency, reading comprehension, sequencing, etc. My student were extremely excited when the resources were obtained. They were excited to target their speech and language goals using these materials and continue to demonstrate excitement. Thank you once again for everything.”

  • Innovative Speech Room for Creative Learning

    Funded Sep 21, 2016

I would like to thank all of the donors for their generous gift. The resources obtained have been used with a variety of students who have a Individualized Service Plan due to speech and language impairment. The puzzles were used with Pre-kindergarteners and Kindergarteners. Students used the puzzles to increase vocabulary, follow directions, target prepositions and create a story pertaining to the picture scene. The story tellers box was a great resource for the older students (K through second grade) when formulating complete SVO sentences. Students also targeted pronouns when formulating sentences. Furthermore, auditory comprehension activities were conducted where students listened to one sentence and chose the correct sentence when provided with 3. Overall, I have seen an immense change in my students motivation to target their speech and language goals. They look forward to targeting their goals using the amazing resources obtained.

When my students first received the materials, they were ecstatic. They could not believe that these resources were for them to use. They continue to be excited and this is evident in their work. For the duration of the school year, my students will continue to target their speech and language goals with the ultimate goal of generalizing skills learned to the classroom. Thank you once again. It is greatly appreciated.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. NFernandez

The students I service range from PreK to 5th grade. Each one of my students has an individualized service plan and are mandated for speech/language services to address areas of need such as receptive language, expressive language, articulation, and fluency. My students enjoy coming to speech therapy and working on their goals. It is amazing to see their reactions when they learn a new strategy. My students may need various repetitions before grasping a concept. Students learn at different rates and it is important to give them their best possible outcome. My school is extremely supportive. However, being that we are in a high needs area, we are not provided with all of the supplies needed in speech to address all of the students objectives. Therefore, we are requesting the assistance from Donors Choose to assist us in reaching our goals.
