The Art of Recycling!

Your generosity has truly made an impact for the recycling initiative we have begun here at PS 272 in Brooklyn. For the first year ever, we have a "Green Team," which has been flooded with applications for students expressing interest in helping recycling to be done with fidelity. What initially started as an idea to just get recyclable materials to be separated from trash and organic waste in the cafeteria has spread throughout the entire school - classrooms, common areas, and offices! We recently increased our efforts to reduce plastic pollution by purchasing compostable bags to be placed in the classrooms to reduce the number of plastic bags ending up in landfills!”

Teaching children to care for the environment is a learning experience that is an important part of growing up. It gives them skills in respect, empathy, patience, responsibility, and teaches them about consequences. But it also teaches them valuable lessons about sustainability and how we want to leave the world for future generations. A sustainable future depends on what we do today, and good habits can become second nature. The lessons we learn in school can lay the habits of a lifetime, and among the more important lessons we can teach our children is the nitty-gritty of recycling. Thank you!
