  • Weather Watching Wonders

    Funded Oct 13, 2010

I can't thank you all enough for your commitment to education and specifically to the students at our school. The weather station and software that we were able to purchase has allowed us to bring our weather unit alive for our students. Instead of just reading about it in a textbook our students are now able to collect and interpret real data from their own town. The software has made the data available to them via the Internet, so they can no continue their research and data collection over the weekends. And they really enjoy the fact that their weather station is part of an online weather station system that allows people all over the world to view current and historical weather from out town! This allows them to more accurately complete the prediction aspect of our unit. Having our own weather station has made weather come alive for our students! Thank you so very much!”

    With gratitude,

  • Capture My Science Project with a Digital Camera

    Funded May 7, 2009

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for funding our grant proposal for two Kodak Zi6 pocket digital cameras for my classroom. Combined with the other 3 cameras we already had it allowed me to divide my science class into 5 groups to develop and present a digital video project on the 5 kingdoms of life.

The enthusiasm of my students for this project was unbelievable! Instead of posters or PowerPoint presentations they were able to present a 10 minute video on their kingdom. With this camera they were also able to take digital still pictures to incorporate into their projects. These cameras made it easy for them to record their video segments and then edit them on computers. They were extremely easy to learn how to use and had excellent video quality. Their small size made it easy to take home to work on their projects outside of the classroom.

I intend to share these cameras with other teachers in my department - they were very excited to see what can be done with these cameras. Thank you again for supporting education in general and specifically my classroom. ”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Grabski

Imagine having the ability to film your science project at home then upload it to your laptop for editing, and finally “publish” your project to share with fellow students on an iPod! That’s one of the many technology goals our Science Department has set for the students we serve. I teach 7th & 8th grade science at a traditional junior high (grades 7-9) with a student population of 860. My classroom serves a wide variety of learners, from Learning Disabled to English language Learners to “gifted” students with a variety of ethnic backgrounds in a small urban city.
