Students of Color should be able to see themselves represented in the books they read. With this project I plan to build a lending library where teachers of all grades can borrow books to read aloud with their students. Having a library representative of our school community allows the students to connect with the characters, setting, and experiences on a deeper level. Some students only see themselves represented in books about slavery or civil rights. Giving them books with characters that use their imagination to fight dragons, playing with friends, or going on a family trip shows them that their life experiences are important and seen!
