The first and foremost skill I want my students to learn is how to cook. This is a life skill that many are not getting at home and it is a dream to be able to teach these students to cook and enjoy food they have never experienced. We are needing the mixer to learn how to make bread, mix items for decorating cakes, cupcakes, cookies and more. The microwave will assist us in melting, defrosting, and teaching them different ways the microwave can be used instead of fast food.
Many of my students do not have the opportunity to experience food from other countries or even common basic foods that we take for granted, so I want to be able to give these students this opportunity to experience there is more to life than just our little area. I had a student just today drink sweet tea and ate pasta salad for the first time-to my surprise because she is an 11th grade student.
Please help so that my students can get more of these experiences in life that they do not get at home. My cooking class has been learning a lot of skills and they are truly excited. I am more excited though than the students I think especially when we get the outcomes like today of new experiences and things they get to try and taste.
