Booming for the Stars
Funded Nov 8, 2022I would like to say thank you for supporting my classroom once again and assisting me get resources to help my students learn in a technological way.
Boom cards are interactive digital activities that are often self-checking! They are hosted on the Boom platform which allows teachers to create or purchase digital activities and assign them to their students. Boom cards allow me to differentiate by assigning different decks to students. Boom cards save me time because they are self checking meaning that Boom Cards instantly give students feedback on their answers. When you get an account with Boom cards it also tracks students progress such as their IEP goals and automatically grades the work as well.”

An Apple A Day!
Funded Sep 29, 2022Having these Ipads on hand to for each student gives them the ability to access to this wonderful reading program called Lexia. Lexia is a new reading program that has been given to teachers to help increase students reading level. The reading program Lexia is only online and you could only gain access by having a desktop, laptop, or an ipad. Lexia help students increase their reading abilities and assess students on what they know and what they don't know. All this information/data is available for the teacher to see. The teacher interrupts this data and has the ability to see where the child is struggling and is able to provide support based on the programs recommendations. Students also have the ability to work on Lexia at home as there are student letters with access to their own account. Most of my students find Lexia interesting because of the animations, they're interest in technology itself, and how simple this program makes it for the student overall.
I want to say Thank You to the donor for helping us fund these ipads. You are helping transform my class into a "21st Century Classroom"!”

Funded Sep 5, 2022I am using these materials in multiple ways. I'd like to say thank you for all the wonderful donors from "Donors Choose". Having the giant stack of color coded folders helps me organize by subject. With the help of the labels everything gets organized and students names are written on everything so that she/he knows where everything. The Velcro dots are so great to have because I had to redo the schedule chart and the times over again due to my schools time changing. I was able to hang up all of this neatly. The Velcro dots also help me decorate around the room and hold things up. The binder clips are fantastic to have because I am able to create math graphic organizer about 6 to 8 pages each and clip them together for all 12 of my students to have individually. Laminating is such a calm and relaxing activity to do and I couldn't be happier to print out graphic organizers, certain decorations, and schedules to help preserve and keep things in tact for my students and hopefully reuse year after year. The dry expo markers having colorful ones and dark ones helps me differentiate things that I write on the board to make it clear for my students. Even when I work in small groups myself and staff enjoy writing in different colors because that's how our students learn and break down notes.
The day I received the amazon packages delivered to my classroom from Donors Choose my students started off with a "gasp". One students asked me if those are presents for the kids. I stated that these are presents but educational ones. I asked the students to help me open up the boxes and sort the materials out which they did. I let the students know that some materials were for them to have and some were for me to help decorate the classroom and have extra supplies. I also let the students know that I was not going to be asking for a school supply list from their parents this year thanks to the wonderful people from "Donors Choose". The students were excited the have markers to use, extra paper to draw on besides using it for the printer as well. Students were happy to get the erasers and started tossing them in the air. All the students were given out folders that they go home with them with any important notices.
My next project that I would like to work on is possibly getting some Ipads for my classroom. A new reading curriculum has been provided by the school which only runs on apple products and regular desktops. I have been lucky to test run the new reading program for my school over the summer and as data points out students reading skills have increased based upon their reading level. Having a couple of Ipads in the classroom to rotate them throughout the week so that students could work on the new reading program while others work on the supplemental reading program kids a-z would be such an amazing benefit for my classroom.”

Funded Sep 29, 2021Incorporating technology into my classroom has been a huge blessing for my classroom! Thanks to all of you for donating. Having the tablets helps my classroom differentiate instruction for reading. I have three different reading groups in my classroom and constantly printing these paper books weekly and putting them together. With the use of the tablets I am able to have the reading a-z app and have the students log onto their account to read for their designated book. With math I am able to incorporate technology and differentiate by using boom cards and google slides that attest to the skills that students are learning. When the students complete their math work online and submit their work. I log onto my google classroom or boom card site and check the work to see how've they done and include comments. I have a couple of students in my classroom who have difficulty with writing and are considered non-writers so I log them onto their google classroom and have them type their writing prompts out and practice typing on the keyboard. Using the tablets for certain subjects I have been able to get the students a bit more focused and interested my lessons.
Some of my students do not have access to technology at home and are only able to use their parents phone for limited amounts of time. Having them navigate through the tablet and explore apps that they like and seeing the excitement on their face is another reason why I wanted to purchase the tablets for them. For others the ability for my students are to use google play store for things they would like to download for their tablet. The students download things for their tablet but by always asking an adult first if it's ok. The opportunity for my students to have their own individual headphones as well is a first for some. Some of my students have told me they never owned a pair of headphones before.
Yes I would say all my students warmed up to the idea of having tablets incorporated in there instruction. My students even asked me to put a tablets period into the schedule which I have. The last period of the day I allow the students to enjoy the tablets however they'd like to use them with adult supervision of course. My students have asked me to take the tablets home at the end of the day even because they enjoy using them and some don't have access to a tablet or a computer at home besides their parents phone.”
