The materials that I am requesting will give my students the opportunity to learn math concepts in a very concrete way. The Early Math Instant Learning Center set includes eight different activities focusing on shapes, patterns, counting, measurement, comparing numbers, making ten, simple addition and simple subtraction. Four kids at once will be able to work on each activity and each includes colorful picture directions. The Ready-To-Go Independent Math Activities includes 15 activities that cover ten essential kindergarten skills. When my students are physically involved, and their little hands are able to touch, explore and manipulate objects, they are much more likely to retain the information. Having a variety of activities available will also help my students transfer knowledge to differing situations as they rotate to the different math stations. My goal is to create learners who will be able to apply what they know to real world situations and improve their problem solving skills. This goal can be achieved if students are given opportunities and the materials needed to gain a better understanding and a working knowledge of number sense. The materials that I am requesting will be available for students to choose independently during a guided math rotation time, and they will also be used during my small groups to reteach skills not yet mastered.
