My students learn musical concepts within the philosophy of 'Orff Schulwerk" - creating, improvising, singing and playing instruments (in the English vernacular) in order to more fully develop multiple intelligences across all grade levels. The ukuele is very user-friendly and will help students develop confidence, fine motor skills and music theory intelligence regarding sound science (acoustics); for example, thinner strings produce higher sounds, thicker string produce lower sounds. Melody instruments appropriate in size and ease of playability are needed in order to accommodate learning modalities for our younger students in particular. These instruments can prepare them for future dulcimer, recorder and piano studies in the upper grades as we continue to build our inventory.
