We have launched a Computer Science program and the students want a break from all the coding. Last week we participated in Hour of Code and the students raved about how much fun they had doing something challenging without working towards a grade. I am seeking to purchase supplies such as locks and flashlights to build Break Out boxes and set up brain game days, where the students are learning while having fun. This will be the start of challenging activities. My hope is to grow from this set of 4 boxes, so more students can directly participate, within their collaborative groups. These boxes contain messages using invisible ink, different types of locks that can be solved by searching the room for the materials needed to solve the lock issues, color paper clips, colored arrows, reference to sites with dominate colors. The case has hidden compartments to hide another clue. The goal is to use the talents each individual provides to find a solution until the treasure box can be opened. I would like to show other teachers how they can use these resources, when we are not using them, within their academic classrooms. Oh, the things we can do..
