  • Give Me Some Space!

    Funded Oct 23, 2020

Thank you so much for providing us with a much need reading and work space for our classroom. The students enjoy and use the table daily! They use the table for Art, and Reader's Workshop! It allows the students to spread out in the classroom while working. Every student has a space for their pod to work that helps maintain social distancing. With COVID drastically changing the school atmosphere, we are thankful to have equipment and furniture to bring a bit of normalcy to our classroom. : )”

  • Getting Lit in Kindergarten!

    Funded Jul 31, 2019

Thank you so much for donating to my project "Getting Lit in Kindergarten." Due to your generous donation, my students are working hard on literacy and math concepts. Learning is fun using center based activities.

We are working on Power Words, Counting sets, building words, and so much more. Using a light table to build words, adds fun and increases engagement. The lights keep our eyes on our work, and sustain our interest.

Donations from Donors Choose are essential in helping us get materials we need to increase learning. Our classroom thanks you for helping us with our learning endeavors. Please remember us if another project is presented!!!

    Much Love,

  • Math Mastery is in the Bag!

    Funded Mar 27, 2018

Smiles filled the room when the students saw all the new boxes of Math manipulatives and games arrive! Math centers are now so engaging with our new games and materials. From power pens for fact fluency to self-checking math games, all the students are actively engaged. All of the Math Manipulatives we received can be brought home and used to enhance learning. These take-home bags empower parents with the tools they need to help their child with their education. Thank you for the new resources. They are a very useful tool in mastering Kindergarten standards.”

  • Learning Loud and Clear

    Funded Feb 28, 2018

Thanks to your generous donations, we now have a sound system for our classroom that is loud enough for students to hear and materials being presented. From using our Q-Ball microphone, to dancing with GoNoodle, can hear lessons, music, and each other LOUD AND CLEAR. WE also received a doorbell that we use with transitions, and a recording microphone. These are great attention-getters, which are much needed with early learners. Thank you to help make learning in our classroom be actively engaging for all students and making learning fun.”

  • Hear ME Learn!

    Funded Jan 25, 2018

Kindergarten classes can be very noisy when active learning is going on. Sometimes it is hard to gain attention when everyone is busy engaging in learning activities. The speaker system that has been put in place is a great asset to gaining everyone's attention to transition learning!

Anytime it is time to stop an activity, we use our doorbell as a signal to freeze. It is loud enough for everyone to hear, and is a fun way to signal students to stop and listen. The kids think it is fun and love when they hear the doorbell go off!

We use the speakers in conjunction with our Q Ball microphone to hear each other when answering questions, or speaking to the class. The kids love to hear themselves over the speakers, and it allows all students to hear even the quietest of voices in the class.

The amplified voices helps all students stay engaged in learning. We are so thankful for the new system in our classroom. We can finally hear each other speaking no matter what is going on in the classroom. So much fun!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Burns

  • Science Everywhere - Community Sleuths

    Funded Nov 27, 2017

We are using our new computer to learn about the environment around us. We are investigating using Science Louisiana Common Core State Standards. We are researching the Internet in small groups to understand and use scientific inquiry, discover properties of objects and materials in our environment, discover positions and motions of objects, identify forms of energy, and life science, and Earth and Space Science.

Using kindergarten friendly web sites to learn about these areas each week have been engaging, and give our students the technology component that engages their interests. After learning about the weeks standards on the laptop, we share our discoveries in class.

We are so thankful for the equipment we needed to provide additional resources to aide in our learning of Science. Our little scientists love to share what they have learned while conducting their research.”

  • Seating Choices for Wiggly Kinders!

    Funded Sep 19, 2017

The students were so excited each day as our packages arrived. We opened the boxes together and every student had a smile as we introduced the new seating to our classroom. Each student was amazed that they are now allowed to pick their seating choices.

Every day the students are excited to choose where they will work and learn! Different personalities like to choose different seating. The students feel empowered when they can choose how they will learn.

As we begin the school day, some students continue to work at their desks, while others quietly gather materials and choose an alternative seating. Hopefully throughout the year we can add to our seating choices to have even more seating options!”

  • Chromebook for Kinders!

    Funded Dec 26, 2016

Thank you for helping to fund the Chromebook for our classroom. We have already been using the Chromebook in Reading Interventions. We will also utilize the educational apps and websites to develop Math and Science understanding. The kids were so excited to have a new tool to help them learn. The touch screen makes it user friendly for the children's' small hands. We will use it daily in our instruction, and I know it will help to make an impact on the students. Your generosity is appreciated.”

Since our school is Title 1, our goal for each student is for them to become successful in school and life. A strong foundation will provide the stepping stone they need to excel and have opportunities to succeed. Most of my students live in financially assisted housing and receive free lunch. Although they are poor financially, they are rich in heart! The entire school strives to nurture the students with love and knowledge. High expectations are producing results. Students in our school know that education is the key to becoming productive members of society. I desire an environment for the students that is cheerful and inviting. With limited funds, it is difficult to provide the students with a room that is comfortable for learning. The tile floor lacks color and is cold and hard. My students need to feel the warmth of an inviting room so their mind is on learning not lack of comfort and personal space.
