A Calming and Hands-on Classroom for STEM Activities

Help me give my students a calming atmosphere that they can engage in STEM activities. Many of the toys and manipulatives help with their higher level thinking skills. My classroom needs to more hands-on activities.

  • Farming is Educational for Special Needs Preschoolers!

    Funded Aug 14, 2024

I watched one little boy go and get a Farm pillow and sit it beside another little boy who was looking at pictures from a farm book. This skill or skills would be impossible without your donation. These little boys are learning so much by just interacting together. The social skills of sharing are so important, the literacy skills of even looking at a book right side up are also very important.

The Farm toys that they play with strengthen the muscles in their hands so they will be able to write. The puzzles teach them problem-solving, shapes, sharing and so much more. The same toys will help with social skills like friendship. They play together learning and manipulating these toys. Without your donation, they will not be able to learn and be motivated. Thank you.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Adams

My students and I are so excited to be these receiving materials for our classroom. We will be able make some creative art projects and use the sensory activities. These activities will help my preschoolers to be ready for kindergarten. They have been working hard on strengthening the muscles in their hands.”

  • Multicultural Preschool

    Funded Apr 9, 2022

As soon as the activities arrived we were putting the different block people in the classroom. The different types of blocks were played with and the rug was stretched out across our reading area. The puzzles have been a big hit as each of them have put them together. The play food was put at housekeeping so they could pretend they were at a Mexican restaurant. They were eager to use the art supplies by making a card for their mothers. Since my kids are from all different countries and all different colors they made their mom look like they should with the paper and the paint. I think the mothers will like this project better with skin tones that resemble their own.

Many of my students are special needs so they have difficulty with labeling their emotions and getting along with others. The toys that we received for emotions has helped the students to learn all about the emotions and how their face looks when they feel that way. When they can label their emotions then they are able to make better choices.

The musical instruments were a huge hit during free play and small group. We learned about the country that each instrument came from. Then my aide would be hidden as she played an instrument. The students had to guess what they were playing.”

  • Learning Center Science Materials

    Funded Aug 19, 2021

We are still receiving some of the materials as they are slowly coming in because of Covid. Those that we have received are being used in our science center like an atrium that we planted. It is covered so the students with more behavioral concerns cannot get into it. We will be using the pond sensory kit in the spring when we talk about frogs and turtles. The kinetic sand has been the biggest and best activity for the students. They have played with it everyday since getting it. Out next step is to sort all the activities so we can have new items to play with through out the year. I have totes with each theme so these items can be put in them so we play with new items. Thank you for your donation!”

  • A Storage Shed Is Needed to Create an Outdoor Classroom!

    Funded Apr 28, 2021

I have to write this thank you letter by a certain time. It took 3 months to even have our building delivered. Now the BOE has to have maintenance to put the building together. So we have not been able to see the affects of using the building for our tricycles. We have have used the totes to store our toys and supplies. This has helped teachers to be able to get supplies out for the students to use. I am so excited to get our building so we can soon have our tricycles put in it. The students will be happy to be able to get their own bike out and have more choices of bikes.

Our next step is to sort out the materials, bikes and supplies to go into each building. Being organized allows use to teach more efficiently and students will learn more. Thank you for your donation!”

  • Take Home Literacy Backpacks

    Funded Apr 11, 2021

The students are able to have backpacks to put their literacy activities into for hands-on home learning. Some of the activities are for writing like that cards and dry erase boards and magic erasing devices. Some are for letter recognition like fishing for letters and magnetic letters. Others are for rhyming like put the matching cards in the houses.

The students were so excited to take them home to share with their parents and siblings.

The next activity I would like to see is other activities besides literacy being taken home. For example, STEM is very important and we need more activities for it. This includes science, technology, engineering and math activities that helps students explore and create to develop their higher level thinking skills.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Adams

  • Totes Full of Art and Sensory Supplies

    Funded Apr 1, 2021

The children have already begun to paint pictures and complete some of the other art projects. They are excited to do different projects like shrinky dinks and sketching on black animals. This has provided motivation for them to practice their fine motor skills. In one of the pictures you can see a boy using a whole hand grip instead of a pincher grip needed to be successful with writing. These activities help him to strengthen the muscles in his hands so he can write neater.

Two of the items were large butcher paper and paint. We will have the students lay on the butcher paper and we will trace them. Then the students will paint how they look. These whole body portraits will be displayed at the end of the year celebration. Other artwork that they have done will be displayed too. So essentially it will be an art show.

By providing these supplies they are able to strengthen their hands, be more creative, make projects for special events, extend literacy by making art that goes with the book and understand science by making the life cycle of the butterfly.”

  • Preschool E-Learning Technology

    Funded Oct 23, 2020

The students are more engaged in learning as I can see them better and vice versa. One of the little boys was so eager to show off his socks on dress up day and was able to do that through the equipment that was donated. They are able to see objects more clearly so they can count, see a science experiment and look at a book. The headphones are awesome for limiting the background noise because we have in class students and e-learning students at the same time. I feel like I can hear the students better when they are giving a sound of a letter or naming a picture. The students feel like that I am a real person and teacher instead of just a voice on a computer. We have formed a relationship by students wanting to make sure say goodbye to me when class is over and getting me a Christmas present. The special needs students are able to be more engaged because they can see and hear the projects that I am doing like singing The Reindeer Hokey Pokey. It's so real for the younger students that they will actually try touching the screen to try to touch what I have or point to objects. Overall, our class has improved greatly with the donation of this equipment and we are grateful!”

Most of my preschoolers do not have access to any technology due to being Headstart (low income). These students need to develop communication and social skills. iPads can help with developing these skills and more! Since the teacher only has access to one iPad each child is only getting a small amount of time each day. We use the iPad in many different ways. We take pictures, make iMovies, use preschool apps and much more. The county requires each preschooler to use a program called Smarty Ants. It is a reading app that completes assessments and then has each child practice at their level. This individualized program has helped the students to name letters, retell stories, follow directions and much more. The progress has been amazing! In the program students must listen to letter sounds, instructions and readings. Headphones are important to do this. Please support us!
