Poetry Buddies
Funded Feb 14, 2011We are extremely grateful to have these beautiful new poetry books. Our students love reading with their friends and this allows them an opportunity to share with a classmate and follow along as the students are buddy reading. The disputes about who's going to hold the book and turn the pages has come to a complete stop. Now students can share and read in a stress free situation.
Our students not only love the buddy reading, but also the variety of new titles for our collection. There is a great mix of old (classic), new, funny and serious poems. As I like to think, something for everyone.
Thank you for your generosity! It's donors like you that puts smiles on students and teachers faces. I hope that you give again to another project. I can't say thank you enough!”

Singing Poets
Funded Oct 7, 2010I must tell you that your donation has positively and directly impacted the excitement of student learning at our elementary school. Our students absolutely love the new Kenn Nesbitt's poetry books.
The students deeply enjoy having their very own copy to read while groups, small and whole class, sing poetry to the tune of familiar songs.
Thank you for your generous donation and I hope you donate to another project in the near future. You are making a difference! ”

This classroom project was brought to life by Build-A-Bear Workshop Foundation and 5 other donors.Flashlight Fridays for Poetry
Funded Sep 9, 2010I have to tell you that your donation has directly impacted student learning at our school. Our students absolutely love the new flashlights for Flashlight Fridays. The excitement level has quadrupled during our poetry time.
The students are enjoying having their own flashlight to use in the dark to read poetry. Many of the students are now writing their own poetry by flashlight.
Our new media center will be opening after Christmas and I told the kids that we will be able to hold our Flashlight Fridays in the new library. The students can't wait!
Thank you for your generous donation and I hope you donate to another project in the near future. You are making a difference! ”

Chicken Soup for the Soul
Funded May 8, 2010Your generosity, in our endeavor to provide enjoyable reading material for our struggling readers, has made a positive impact. The kids can't believe that they get to have their very own copy of Chicken Soup for the Children's Soul to read at school OR take home if they choose. There has not been very many opportunities for our students to take books home until now. You have made this change possible!
When I meet with the students 1:1 we use this book to practice reading skills such as blending, decoding, fluency and comprehension. After our session the students take the book with them to read at their leisure. The stories are short and interesting, yet the size of the book makes these kids feel like they are reading a "chapter book." This is huge when you have kids battling with self esteem issues.
Thank you for your donation!!!”

"Mom, Can Shel Silverstein Spend the Night?"
Funded Oct 2, 2009Your generosity, in our endeavor to bring poetry to our students, has made a positive impact. Just last week a young boy named Blas said, "I didn't know poetry could be so much fun!" That is the response I was hoping for. Your donation has made that hope a reality.
We have now started something new called "Flashlight Fridays." Every Friday, each student gets a copy of Where the Sidewalk Ends and a flashlight. We turn off the lights and the kids get to read with Shel Silverstein in the dark. It has been a tremendous success. The kids can't wait for 9:25 A.M. on Friday's to roll around.
For me, the most surprising thing has been the attitude change with our struggling readers. The requests to take these books home has been overwhelming and we are currently in the process of getting the books ready to be checked out and sent home.
Thank your for your donation. It has been key in developing our kids love of poetry.
