I teach 10th, 11th, and 12th grade Physical Science and Biology II students. Our school is located in a very small town and many of our students come from less than ideal situations. Many of my students come to school not only because it is required, but also to escape their home life. This is one of the reasons why I chose to start the interactive science notebooks. This allows my students a way to not only learn the course material, but also have a personal and unique way to show me what they have learned and a voice. It gives the students responsibility and ownership. As a result of this, the students become more confident and are quite proud of their notebooks. Due to the socioeconomic status of many of my students, it is hard for them to obtain the materials needed for the interactive notebooks.
