One resource in which our school is lacking is the availability of technology. Though we are encouraged to incorporate technology into our daily plans, the reality is that every year we have less and less to share. Laptops are shared among teachers, and there is very little to be done as far as protecting the technology from damage when they are constantly moving throughout the school. Having a class set of Chromebooks, as well as an Ipad from which I can display instruction through an already owned apple tv, will alleviate the shortage of technology in a big way.
Having access to the Google suite of programs will play a crucial role in increasing the achievement of my students. Adding these Chromebooks to my classroom will allow my students to take full advantage of this software on a far more regular basis. Much of the work we do is done through Google docs, and as the teacher, I funnel these tasks through my separate google classroom page. Because there is such seamless integration between the Google programs, students will continue to develop a familiarity with these products that will ultimately make their skills even stronger.
In addition to writing assignments, having the Chromebooks in my room will also allow my students to conduct research without having to leave the classroom to go to a computer lab. Through my district, I have access to multiple paid subscription learning services such as Membean, a vocabulary program, as well as Moby-Max, a multi-disciplinary program that caters to each students' needs.
Having the iPad will allow me to stream instruction in an efficient way using my Apple TV and will serve as a replacement for my district supplied Macbook which is on its last legs. Everything my laptop does, this iPad can do better.
