  • Positive Intervention Clubs

    Funded Apr 2, 2024

Thank you so much for donating to my students! The students loved all of the arts and crafts your donation provided. Each Friday our school participates in "clubs" as an initiative to support and encourage students to do well each and every week.

My students loved all the crafts and have made countless bracelets and necklaces for themselves as well as their friends and family. Creating the jewelry is both a calming and relaxing experience for my students while also helps them work on their fine motor skills. Thank you for your generosity!”

  • Help Us Hear & Focus!

    Funded Jan 11, 2024

Thank you so much for your support and contributions to my school. With your donation I was able to give every student in our elementary school headphones. These headphones are vital to their learning process as many of the curriculums we use are online and require students to listen and actively participate. In the past, we would have to have the students share their headphones. Now each classroom has their own set and each student is able to use them to further their skills in reading, math, social studies, science and more.

All of the students were very excited to have this technology in their classroom, as many times we did not have access to headphones. We have a high autistic population so the headphones enhanced their learning and allowed them to further concentrate on their online assignments. Thank you so much for providing our students with the technology they need to succeed!”

  • Drawing Therapy for Special Needs

    Funded Sep 29, 2022

My students were so excited when we opened our packages! For each student I was able to give them a pencil case filled with art supplies so that each time we do an art project they are able to concentrate and work on their individual style and talent.

The first project we did was using colors to describe their emotions. Each student was able to identify a color and picture to represent their feelings and mood. More recently, we created posters for Christmas, participated in a door decorating contest and wrote cards and created posters for our Veterans that visited our school. My students really appreciate having new supplies and I cannot thank you enough for your generosity.”

  • Keeping It Clean

    Funded Sep 21, 2022

Thank you for donating cleaning supplies to my school! For all of the students in our program, I was able to share tissues and cleaning wipes. Now students have supplies so they can keep their rooms clean especially clean during this cold and flu season. Many of my students enjoy chores and taking responsibility and ownership in the classroom. We frequently use the cleaning products to clean our desks and computers.

At all times I give my students access to tissues and pencils. This project continues to give my students access to items they need to keep clean and prepared. My students really appreciate being in a clean and accessible classroom!”

  • Graduation = Transformations

    Funded May 9, 2019

Technology in our classroom is imperative. In our class every day we use a SmartBoard to project our lessons. We try to make them interactive as well as displaying videos to further students' understanding. We offer ipads to our class when appropriate and attempt to teach students how math pertains to life and technology everyday.

This project has been great for my students and I because we are celebrating their growth and graduation. Doing Transformations on graph paper and understanding the relationships between similar and congruent figures. My students are able to also reflect on their growth this year, both in the classroom and in their personal lives.

This project is bittersweet because it celebrates the next step in our students lives, while also saying goodbye. Many of my students are excited to be moving on to a new school but also sad to leave behind the friends and adults they have met over their three years attending IS61. This project brings up not only discussions in math, but discussions about life and future endeavors. Thank you for being apart of this pivotal period in their lives. Your support is the reason these students strive.”

  • Keep Students Engaged On And Off The Court

    Funded Mar 27, 2018

Thank you for supporting our basketball teams! Thanks to your donation, all of our girls have duffel bags and matching socks! This brought so much unity to the team and gave the girls so much confidence going into each and every game. Having equipment like this inspires our students to do better in school to maintain a high level of academic and behavioral achievement. Having a basketball team at our school has impacted many of our students lives as they do not have many activities to go to after school. Programs like this help keep students safe and allows our students to be more successful in life by exposing them to an idea that hard works leads to great benefits and rewards! We hope our team can win in playoffs this year to make you proud!”

  • Can't Have An Answer Without Pencils!

    Funded Mar 27, 2018

Thank you so much for your generosity! My students benefit greatly from this project. We are always in need of pencil sharpeners, pencils and notebooks. With math especially, my students need to use pencil to adjust their work and make corrections. The project was fun because we used the markers to correct each other' s work while doing circuit training and an error analysis where students demonstrated their knowledge through finding and making corrections to other works. The sharpener is probably the most important item in my classroom!”

  • Healthy Snacks Promote a Healthy Mind!

    Funded Mar 27, 2018

Thank you for your donation! Thanks to you, my students were able to have an open discussion about making healthier choices. Not only having the discussion, but demonstrating and showing them that alternative snacks can be not only beneficial but taste good went a long way. I was able to do a station activity that showed my students good decisions to benefit their life and health. The students really enjoyed going from station to station and, enjoyed many of the snacks that were distributed. Thank you for your support and helping to educate my students!”

I have always enjoyed working with children. Growing up, I worked at camps as a counselor, was a nanny and volunteered to work with special needs children. Choosing to become a teacher was the most fulfilling decision I could ever make. Working as a teacher, I was hoping to impact the lives of others but, I had no idea the impact that these students would have on me. Every day I push myself to be a better person because I want to be a better role model for my students. I want to give back to my students. I went on DonorsChoose.org to be able to give my students the supplies and necessities they need in order to make their lives enriched. My students come from poverty stricken neighborhoods but, still come to school with motivation and passion. I want to be able to give them all I can to help them better their success in life. I appreciate all your help in supporting and helping me to attain this goal. Thank you!
