Project-based Learning
Funded Sep 27, 2022We are just finishing up our project about animal shelters. Students were to design and present their ideas for an animals shelter to potential investors during a "Shark Tank" event. I brought in members of the community and school to play the Sharks and listen to their pitches.
With your donation I purchased a project on TPT that helped to guide the instruction and add to the what I've done in the past. It was quite the success and the Sharks were very impressed with the hard work.
I love this project and it has been growing over the years to be quite the event at school. Students shine and are so proud of all the hard work .”

This classroom project was brought to life by The Allstate Foundation and one other donor.Interactive Learning
Funded Jun 13, 2020Wow, what a crazy start of the school year. It might not feel like one new iPad in a classroom would be that helpful, but I can tell you that it is game changing. I have used an iPad for interactive learning for years and couldn't live without it. I didn't realize how outdated the one I was using was, until the new one arrived. I can do so much more with it and am excited to really share it with my students.
So far, we have mostly been in a distance learning model, so kids haven't been able to use the new iPad like I had originally planned. However, I have found new uses for it and it has become a critical part of my teaching. Let me explain what is going on in a few of the pictures.
The first picture is an example of how I used it to make videos of myself reading books to my students. The kids loved to see me, and my dog, when I was reading books at home. This was a great way to connect with them. The next few pictures are what it looks like in the classroom. I have my command center upfront where I use the iPad as an interactive whiteboard that I share with my students while on Zoom. This allows me to work on the same work they are doing and show them the steps to complete an assignment.
There is also a picture of my classroom setup. This is where I use the iPad as an interactive whiteboard when students are with me. This frees me up to walk around the room and help students and still work on their assignments with them. This way I'm not trapped behind a document camera unable to truly see what they are doing. Finally, there is a drawing lesson that I was able to use my iPad as a document camera to guide my students in an art lesson.
This is only the tip of the iceberg for uses and I look forward to a time when students can use it and share their work with the class. Thank you again for your generosity and support of this project.”

Mrs. Cavanaugh
