  • Insects, Friend or Foe?

    Funded Sep 20, 2023

This has been a very interesting Donors Choose Project. My students had an exact science insect exploration center in our school's pre-k. I did not realize how much the children would enjoy this center the second time around.

This exploration insect science center has tapped into their prior knowledge from what they learned from last year. It has enhanced the children's discussion skills and vocabulary. This center also helps spark new ideas on how we can use the center within the different subject areas, like writing. The children who are new to our school get an extra kick out of this center, since it is new to them. I hope this center really helps children overcome their fears of insects and teaches them the important role they play in our natural world.

I want to thank you again for your donations. They really do have an impact on our youngest learners.”

  • Climb to the Top!

    Funded Sep 20, 2023

Children love toys. Especially toys that are unfamiliar and new to them. The impact these new toys have made on this class are already noticeable durning class discussions and durning partner talk. The children love the giant wooden Lakeshore Tree Top Doll House with all the tree style furniture. They also love all the different families and their cultural differences.

These toys have helped the children build great friendships among some of the children. The toys which require cooperation, sharing, and listening skills, really teach the children about turn taking and problem solving skills.

I want to thank you on behalf of my students for you generous and continuous support. It is greatly appreciated every day.”

  • Breakfast for All

    Funded Aug 15, 2023

Thank you so much for your generous donation. The children are relieved to know, that there is food here waiting for them if they have not eaten breakfast or did not like the lunch served in school that particular day. This food allows for better learning and more focus. My class does not have to worry about feeling hungry till lunch time or till when they get home. I am also grateful for the peace of mind this provides my students.

All the snacks are definitely appreciated. The children love them. I'm lucky to teach a wonderful group of students. They are funny and have great personalities.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I can't wait to see the overall progress and development of trust they will make throughout kindergarten. Again, Thank you so very much.”

  • I Can Read Even More Now!

    Funded Mar 30, 2023

I want to say, this project, I Can Read Even More Now, has had the most impact of all my projects. The children love reading time and now they are truley independent readers.

The new books have allowed me to start teaching beginning reading strategies. Our new leveled library is keeping the children engaged during independent reading. My students are able to now go back and practice their newly learned reading skills.

Reading time is now our favorite time of the day. This has been so successful, I plan on posting this project again to expand our classroom library.

Thank you for your donations. You are most appreciated.”

  • Kitchen Captivation

    Funded Sep 21, 2022

I am very thankful for all your donations for Kitchen Captivation. Finally, after years and years without the major kitchen appliances in the center has ended. The children were excited on an entirely new level. Most of my children have never had the experiece of playing with such a realistic kitchen center.

The children pretend and play with the new sink and stove/oven set everyday. They cook all kinds of meals for each other. They take turns washing the dishes. This type of center has helped my students reach the highest level of cooperative play.”

  • Creativity Made Timeless

    Funded Oct 26, 2022

Over the years I have been often asked by my kindergarten students, "Why is the paper shiny?" My go to answer is usually, "It has plastic melted around it. We do this so we can save papers and charts forever." This year I decided to make laminating their work a class event.

My students were very excitied when I took out the Scotch Laminating machine and lamination sheets. I let the children pick out one of their favorite drawings and they watched as the unclear lamination sheets went in and came out warm, clear, and shiny. They were amazed.

This experience has helped to motivte my students to always do their best work. Thank you for the donations that made this all possible.”

My students are from a variety of different cultures. They lack many experiences and have limited language skills. Many of our students live in shelters or have switched schools 2 to 3 times this year alone. We are in the Bronx, so there are many inner city challenges to deal with. However, most of the student I have taught are resilient.
