How can you measure the amount of matter in an object? Does air have mass? What happens to the mass of water when it freezes into a solid? My students need quality double pan balances to answer these questions and more. My young scientists will use these double pan balances to practice measuring mass, test their predictions about matter, and explore the Law of Conservation of Matter. That's just the beginning. We'll be using these tools all year long as we study exciting topics and practice our engineering skills. Students learn science by "doing science" and these double pan balance scales are the tools they need to take their learning to the next level. Unfortunately, over the last three years, students have missed out on so many opportunities for hands-on learning projects like this one. Due to COVID-19, my students have needed to transition between in-person and distance learning many times. While we have done our best to bring learning to life in these tough situations, the need for my students to have real life practical science learning experiences when they are in the classroom is amplified even more. These double pan balances will allow my students to fully take advantage of those opportunities.
