My students range from 8-12 years old and have a variety of backgrounds. Many of them play the piano but have never had the opportunity to try something new and different because of the cost associated with taking lessons and acquiring an instrument. Playing the ukulele gives them this opportunity but at a fraction of the cost as ukuleles are affordable and are relatively easy to learn to play. Of the 400 students I teach, 100 of them also sing in the school choir. We have started incorporating ukulele into the school choir as a way of teaching the students how to accompany a group and to offer students a different way to participate.
