In my classroom, students have the opportunity to choose their seating frequently in order to collaborate with their peers; however, my one round table gets pretty bogged down during this time...leaving most to find a spot on the floor. A few, but not many, choose the traditional seating. My students requested to write an argumentative essay in order to state their claim on what seating should look like in my classroom. They won!! Preferential/Flexible seating would allow my students a choice of what seating best fits their learning style. Having this project funded would allow me to transform my classroom from an environment with uncompromising furniture to an environment that is full of endless engagement opportunities...no more bogging down my one round table with 12 students cramming into one small area.
