Math is not just paper, pencils, and sometimes calculators. All these items are not very colorful. In my class, we have found multiple ways to add color to mathematics. Through out the school year we work on Face-ing Math, a worksheet with a picture combination activity, create concept posters, secret picture graphs, and tessellations that decorate the classroom at different times of the year. I empower the students through art by grouping a math concept with a colorful picture.These simple art projects allow for a math concept to be reinforced while drawing and coloring a picture. Whether we are solving equations or finding the mean, there are two completely different assessments going on. The students get to see their picture on the wall and be proud of their work. I have one art project a month that I can use to decorate the classroom door. It is nice to show other students and teachers what we are working on in class.
