Firsties Needing Quality Supplies
Funded May 9, 2023Thank you so much for the items my classroom received. Since I received them at the end of the year, it will mostly be next year's class that will benefit and the classes after. The Amazing Animals books were needed for our science unit. Our entire 4th quarter is dedicated in science to researching an animal, writing a report about it, creating a Google slides presentation, & then presenting it to the class. Yes, in 1st grade!! And the students love it -- it is always one of their favorite projects of the year every year. These Amazing Animals books are wonderful as the pictures are so beautiful and the text is what a first grader can read and comprehend. We also received the desk offices. These offices are used for students to work in privacy, whether it be during a test or quiet writing time. Students will even ask to use one when they just need peace from their peers (we use tables.) For years I used cheap cardboard versions of these offices that I inherited with the classroom over a decade ago. Some were ripped, some were scribbled on, some had pencil holes poked in them. These that you donated are high quality and virtually indestructible. They are so nice...a teacher's dream. The kids even oohed & ahhed when I unwrapped them. LOL Thank you!!”
With gratitude,

Funded Mar 20, 2016Thank you so much for donating to our classroom project! As you can see from the pictures, my kids LOVE the tablets and they are getting used daily. I used to only have my own personal ipad to use which led to lots of fighting and students not getting the full effect of the learning apps as it would be 4 students sharing the ipad at a time with no headphones on. Now the children can each have their own tablet to use, just placing on a pair of headphones and focusing in on the learning. We use them for all sorts of reasons: 1) Brainpop Jr. which covers reading, math, writing, science, social studies, and health matters, 2) QR codes to scan for informational videos on plants, animals, poetry, etc., 3) educational apps that deal with phonics, and 4) reading sites like Tumblebooks where stories are read to my strugglers/reluctant readers.
I also have a student who had hip surgery and has not been able to go to PE or recess all year! For the majority of time, I have had to send him to the office with a book to read or a puzzle but he is getting really bored when everyone else is having fun outside running around. Now he can use one of the tablets to be entertained. I just downloaded a bunch of educational games and he can choose which he wants to play -- doesn't even notice his friends are gone.
So thank you from the bottom of my heart. My students and I truly appreciate your generosity.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Sears
