The professional texts requested: Equipped for Reading Success, Essentials of Assessing, Preventing, and Overcoming Reading Difficulties (Essentials of Psychological Assessment), and Essentials of Evidence-Based Academic Interventions, are all critical components to teach the science of reading.
The science of reading encompasses years of scientific knowledge and research that demonstrates the effectiveness of intensive phonemic awareness training, intensive phonic decoding training, and opportunities for repeated practice with reading controlled text.
Intervention in these skills leads to efficient decoding skills and the highest degree of success, over the shortest amount of time. These materials will help my third grade students master the Nevada Reading Foundational Standard, R.F.3.3- Know and apply grade-level phonics and word analysis skills in decoding words.
These materials will not only be used in my third grade intervention groups, but will also be available to the other strategists to use with their intervention groups in kindergarten, first, second, fourth, and fifth grade.
