Students learn best through experiences. All students enjoy playing tone chimes, but I currently only have enough chimes for a few students to play at a time. With this set of chimes, it will allow for students to play and experience music as an ensemble. Students will work with each other to experience live instrumental music that has math and literacy connections and expressive qualities. Every student in the music room deserves the opportunity to create music using chimes to express various musical qualities. With the focus in education shifting to assessment and skills, I feel that students need this opportunity to express themselves and experience ensemble (team)work in music. The connections to literacy in phrasing and storytelling will add to their understanding in both language arts and music. Telling a story using the chimes will allow for more creativity due to the various ways to produce a sound. Students will also make connections between playing chimes and math. They need to know how long or short to play their note and where their note "fits in" to the overall sound.
