Where do I begin? My students are only seven years old and have already overcome many obstacles. We all live and learn in a high poverty area of our city. "My kids" are determined, smart, sweet and make me laugh much more than they make me crazy! They are hardworking and rise to the challenge of learning as a deaf child everyday. Since our students hail from low socioeconomic backgrounds, they often lack typical prior knowledge. Deaf children rely heavily on visuals for learning and I feel at times, our student body even more so, since so few of them have experienced what their typically learning peers have. Having technological resources at the ready is not easy and many times it is frustrating when I know that a picture is worth a thousand words...
