Bringing Learning to Light
Funded Mar 27, 2021Thank you so much for your donations to help purchase black lights and highlighters for our project. These supplies assisted us greatly in our search for textual evidence to support our answers and inferences when reading texts. The students were amazed with how they worked and are now begging to use the supplies every chance they get. Due to the novelty of the activity, student engagement and learning has increased exponentially and they are learning more from these activities due to these supplies thanks to you!”

Relax, Wiggle, and Read
Funded Apr 16, 2020Thank you so incredibly much for your help supplying these items to my students. My students' ability to maintain focus when seated has increased exponentially. Students can get their wiggles out while seated quietly and safely at a desk. In addition, the light filters have created a relaxing ambiance in the room and eliminated harsh lighting that can increase headaches and anxiety in some students.
When students and visitors come to our class, they are always curious about our new supplies and ask to try them out! Even adults comment on how calm our room is and how much they enjoy using the bouncy bands and yoga balls. Students were at first hesitant about using them but now have found how to use them to best help themselves maintain focus.
Next, I plan to expand our classroom's flexible seating options. From our last two donors chose projects we now have beanbags and a comfortable seating area and now yoga balls and bouncy bands. Next, I would love to expand into standing table options! This would continue to support my students who work better when afforded the opportunity to move.”

Get Comfortable with a Book!
Funded Mar 17, 2016Thank you so much for donating to our class! Since we have received our new comfy chairs, which the class has lovingly termed "the living room," we have been using them daily. The students are now asking if they can have time to read their novels. Because students are now wanting to read their books, they are discovering new authors and book series that they love and are reading outside of class as well as increasing their independent reading skills.
When the first boxes arrived in our classroom, the students were so excited to open them but we waited a few days until all the supplies were here. The students opened the boxes and arranged the chairs how they wanted them. Because they took ownership of setting it up, they feel that the space is their own and enjoy being in it more.
In the upcoming months, we will be celebrating the Olympics with our very own Reading Olympics competition. We will be using a program called Accelerated Reader to see who will win the Gold, Silver, and Bronze by accumulating the most points for reading books. Because of the chairs, some students have read 3 books in the past 2 weeks! In the past, students were struggling to read 2 books in a month. With the chairs, students are wanting to read and, once they do, they learn that they enjoy reading.
Thank you so much again for helping my students learn that reading can be desirable. With the chairs, students are discovering authors and series they love because of the extra time they spend reading.”
