STEAM Team
Funded Oct 16, 2019Many of the students at my school do not have a technology resources to use at home. Many of them come from families who do not know how to use technology. It is so important for my students to start using it now in the beginning of their education, so they are prepared for our "technology world". I do not want my students to have a disadvantage to other students because of this.
It is also important to make learning fun. When students are interested in what they are learning, and if they are having fun, they learn more. My students are so interested in how robots and steam work. It is exciting for me to watch them use the new supplies and learn how things work.
For example, with the Ozbot robot, my students are learning how to code. But they are also learning that every robot they have ever used, whether it is a computer, Ipad, Dot, or the Ozbot, was coded by another person. They loved learning that computers do not have brains. They get to be the brains inside of the computers. That is very exciting for my students, and has opened many different possibilities for their futures.”

Funded Mar 30, 2019Thank you for your very generous donation to my classroom. These books have been such a joy for my students. They look forward to reading these books daily.
In my class, my routine is to send home a book a day. Each child gets a book that is at their individual reading level. Once they bring the book back, they get another book. So many of my students look forward to seeing what book they will get next. I love to hear them talk to their classmates about the books and share how much they liked the different books.
I have seen a huge improvement in my students reading levels. These books came for my class last school year, and they had the highest reading level that I have every had in any class at the end of the school year. You were a huge part of that, and I can not thank you enough.”

Learn Through Play
Funded Jan 8, 2019Thank you so much for your donation towards the supplies for my classroom. The students love to use the supplies during our center time. Center time is when the students work in small groups of three to four students. They rotate through three different centers a day. The supplies that you have donated are most of the centers that the students get to use. They love to build and collaborate with each other to see what they can create.
This time is essential for me as a teacher. It is hard for Kindergartener's to do "independent" work. Many cannot read yet, so they really need a teacher to walk them through tasks. With these supplies, the students already have figured out how to work them, and do not need as much teacher support. This gives me time to pull individual students that may need extra help in certain areas. Because of these supplies I can pull reading groups, math groups, and phonic groups. The students that need more support are getting exactly what they need, all while my other students are building and creating with their peers.
I love to see what my students are able to create, and I believe because of your help, I have some engineers and architects in my classroom. I cant wait to see what they create next, thanks to you!”

Mrs. Cervantes
I Like to Move It Move It
Funded Aug 22, 2018Thank you very much for donating to my "I Like to Move It Move It" project. My students look forward to PE every day. Before we got the materials, the students would just play at the park in our school. I thought they might be disappointed that they will be missing out on playing at the park, but they prefer to play with the equipment. They ask every single day what games they will be playing during PE today.
I have seen this make a difference in the classroom as well. Since the students are learning sportsmanship and that they are a team, they get a long much better in the class too. They feel like a team, and they take a lot of pride in working together, both on the playground and in the classroom.
Thank you for showing my students that the community believes in us. Its nice to see how many "cheerleaders" we have cheering our team on!”

Funded Aug 4, 2018Thank you very much for your generosity on purchasing the Learn Through Play toys. My students are so excited when they get to see the bins coming out. I love to see what the students build. Their imaginations are amazing, and I find I am learning just as much from them as they are learning from me. Thank you for showing my students how important they are to our community. I get to tell the students that we have many people in our community that are rooting for their success, and by donating to this, you are showing them your support. I can't wait to see what else my think of and create with the toys that you purchased.”

Who Doesn't Enjoy to Read?
Funded Jan 25, 2018One thing I love about teaching the little ones is watching their excitement when they realize they can read. At the end of the Kindergarten year, many students have their "ah hah" moment and really start taking off with their reading. These books have played a huge role in helping my students discover their love for reading.
Every day I send home books for the students to read with their families. Its the best part of our day. The students get excited to see what books they are going to get. I get excited to hear them say things like "yes I've been wanting this book". Or, "yay, that's the book I had last night, you are going to like it" when they are talking with their friends. Its amazing to see students actually get excited about homework!
These books not only help the students learn to read, but it gives the parents an opportunity to be a part of the students learning. Parents get to read the books with their child every night, and see how much they are progress. Or they see where they can help their child progress. My parents this year have been fantastic at communicating with me to tell me how the reading is going. It helps the children read, and helps me to level my students with the resources that are best for each one individually.”

Funded Aug 17, 2017Thank you so much for your donation to our kidney table. My students were so excited to walk into the classroom and see that new table. This table has already been put to great use. Mrs. Sharp pulls small groups to work on letter names, sounds and quick as a snap words. My aide works on letter names and sounds, and we have even made it an art table. The students love to get pulled to the table for painting on the new table. This has given me a space to work 1 on 1 or 1 on 2 on writing for my students who need some more support. I have already seen so much growth in the small time that we have had this new table.
I believe one of the biggest lessons I have been able to teach my students is the lesson of giving. It makes us all feel good to know that the community is supporting our education. It made my students feel proud to know that all these people care about them and are rooting for their success. Thank you so much for showing myself and my students how much you love and care for us!”

An Ear-Resistible Approach to Technology
Funded Sep 24, 2016Thank you so much for your donation towards the wireless headphones for my classroom. These have saved me at least 5-10 minutes daily. My students love to use the iPads to play on different educational apps in my classroom. In Kindergarten, most of the students cannot read, but are so interested in learning. Using technology, the students can hear and see letter names and sounds, which helps them learn to read. The games are exciting and interactive and I have already seen a ton of growth with all of my students.
The time I save from needing to set up and breaking down head phones has given me extra time to work one on one with the students who need extra support. These head phones have given me an opportunity to work with one extra student a day.
My students and I appreciate you and your generosity. It is so encouraging to show my students how our community is cheering them on!”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Cervantes
