My students are members of a K-8 community school in eastern Kanawha county. It's a rural setting where many students families are effected by the decline in the local coal industry. Cedar Grove Middle School is a "community" school where many students stay from Kindergarten through the 8th grade. Consistency in staff and administration over the last few years have made the climate of CGMS an excellent place to work and learn. Many students come from a low socioeconomic homes and qualify for free or reduced lunch. Their background does not prevent them from being avid learners and expressing a sincere curiosity about the world around them.
