  • Just Right Books

    Funded Nov 16, 2018

Thank you for being so generous to me and my awesome kindergartners. We were so excited to receive your package in the mail. The books that came a few weeks ago have been used everyday since they were opened.

The children use these books as their "Book Baggie" books. They are on their level. They are

colorful. They are interesting. Most of all they don't look like baby books. The children feel

proud when they pick out their own books for the week. They take the books home or they read them in the classroom. They love to show off to their neighbors and partners when they

conquer each book. What I love most is when the children return the books for new ones and their partners or neighbors pick the conquered books as their books for the week.

Thank you for expanding my library with such fun and age appropriate books. Thank you for expanding my students minds and goals to be better readers and conquers.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Gapper

  • Books! Books! Books!

    Funded Dec 3, 2018

The day our new books arrived was such a fun day. Our books came a few weeks after the project was funded because of the holidays and days off. It felt like Christmas all over again for both myself and for the students.

I was so happy and impressed with these just right books. I didn't expect these books to be so

Fun. Most books that are leveled for A, b or c readers are so basic. These books were not basic. They were fun and interesting. The books were colorful and the covers were screaming pick and read me.

My students use these books in their book baggies every week and are able to take them home. They have such excitement when they can return the just right books and pick three new ones. They know they will be able to read the books they choose by the end of the week.

Thank you for bringing such happiness to kindergarteners with just some simple and easy to read books”

  • A Magazine Just for Kids!

    Funded Nov 13, 2018

Our first issues came in this week. I invited the children to the brand new carpet that we got from awesome donors like you, and i explained to them what came in the mail for them. They were excited and surprised to get mail at school. I showed them the September issues and explained how the kiddie magazines were going to go home with them. One student asked "for ever?" And I answered with a giggle. I showed the students each of the four issues and they were beyond excited to take them home and try to read them and more importantly show their parents.

I got a message from one parent today saying how much fun she and her daughter had with the magazines and how they are looking forward to the next ones.

Thank you for your donations to let my students see information on their level and in a new and different media. They came in and shared what they read and what they saw in the magazines. They were so excited!!! Thank you for supporting a very thankful NYC teacher.”

  • A Magic Carpet

    Funded Nov 16, 2018

The classroom phone rang and I was asked if my new carpet could be delivered at that time. Soon after I hung up Mr. ******** walked in with a huge rolled up carpet behind him. The kids were quiet and just watching what was happening. I did not tell them about our new piece of classroom furniture that was arriving that day. I wanted to see their reactions. After we moved furniture and made a lot of space, Mr. ******* tore open the plastic and rolled out the carpet.

The students realized what what happening and they knew this was going to change our room. Not only is the carpet HUGE it is colorful. We tried it out as soon as we could. The students grabbed a book and laid down on the carpet. All the students could fit!!!!

We use that carpet daily for conferencing, for small group instructions, for whole group story time or for small group reading time. We have even used the carpet for chill out time after dancing or some sort of silly activity.

Thank you for supporting me and my classroom. Thank you for supporting students the most. They love the gift and they love the space they get now. I love it as well and were all enjoying the new carpet smell that still lingers in the room.”

  • Retelling Stories With Felt

    Funded Mar 27, 2018

When the huge boxes arrived with these new resources I was beyond excited. I always wanted to have a felt board and pieces that went with stories. I always wanted to act out the books I read with my students but didn't have the resources. I knew what was in the boxes and I knew how great these things were.

The children were very curious to see what I donated to us. When I shoed them I immediately explained how these were going to be used to tell and retell stories. They too were becoming increasingly excited. I used the materials as much as I could the first few weeks. The response from the children was so positive.

During center time these felt characters are left on a box with the felt boards and the felt glove and its so rewarding to see the children reenacting the books with each other. They have grown so much with retelling stories, sequencing stories and especially making up their own stories with their imagination. Thank you for continually providing me with supplies to benefit my students.”

  • "Magnifer and Scopes"

    Funded Mar 27, 2018

I would like to thank you all very much for your continued generosity. You have helped my classroom become alive. The project "Magnifier and Scopes" has helped my students become much more interested in science and interested in investigating things.

Anytime something new is introduced to three-and four-year olds the buzz in the classroom is loud. The students were very curious and excited to see what had arrived for them. They instantly knew what the magnifiers were for but they were unsure of the microscopes. It didn't take long for their curiosity to take over The children soon discovered what they could do with the microscopes.

Both the microscopes and the magnifiers are used daily and are permanently left on our science table. The children are free to use them any time they wish during center time. Thank you for your love of learning and helping me help my students.”

  • Comfy Literacy Fun

    Funded Feb 3, 2018

The new child friendly red couch you donated to us is the newest coolest thing in our school. The children were so surprised to see this very red piece of furniture in our cozy corner.

The couch is used when the children are reading to themselves or to each other. They can visit the cozy corner when ever they feel they need a little down time. The cozy corner is our little comfortable quiet corner that is used when someone is over stimulated. At any time during the day someone is sitting or laying down of the child size couch. They relax, read or even put the baby dolls to sleep on the couch.

During our water unit the children loved using the floating letter beads in the water bins. This fun game was very helpful for some students to understand letter/sound relationships. Using these floating beads was so much fun while splashing in the water.

Thanks you donors for helping me help my students become kindergarten ready.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Gapper

  • Balls, Scooters and Bean Bags!

    Funded Dec 30, 2017

When the big boxes of balls, hop on balls and scooters arrived the children were so curious. They didn't realize the supplies were for them. I was so excited to see their reactions when the gym was filled with new equipment at all the stations. They were and still are so excited to go to gym (gross motor play) every day.

The first things they saw was the air pump blowing up the big hop on balls. They couldn't wait to hop on them. They love all the new things that you have provided for them. The children have so many new, fun and complete activities for gym time. Thank you for your continued generosity. The children and the adults are so grateful for people like you.

Thank you donors and thank you donors choose.”

  • Dolls! Dolls! Dolls!

    Funded Dec 20, 2017

When the box of dolls and doll accessories showed up to my classroom, they children were so excited to see what was inside. When my co-teacher and I started opening the boxes the children were beyond excited. They were so happy to have dolls and doll furniture for our mostly empty doll house. We couldn't get the things unwrapped fast enough for them. The teachers are so happy to see both the girls and the boys playing together at the doll house. The multicultural dolls were a reflection to what was represented in my classroom.

My students and my classroom are bursting with excitement because of this wonderful organization. The donors are so generous and so thoughtful to give over and over to classrooms like mine. Thank you so much donors, you are the positive we need to help these super excited learners.”

  • Sand and Water Please

    Funded Jan 28, 2018

My student have been having the best time learning about water because of the new items that you have helped me add to my Sand and Water center. This is hands on learning. This is learning through play. This is what Per-k is all about.

Every day they ask if both the water and the sand table is open for the day. This is by far the messiest center in our fun classroom. The children look forward to what new extra i will be adding to the center each week. All these fun extras were donated by you.

Thank you for helping me give these 17 excited lifting ones more choices and more memories in Pre-k.”

Although I have been a teacher for 17+ years I never expected to have an experience in Pre-K. I spent all of my previous years teacher first grade, but recently made the move to the first floor. Pre-K requires lots of new supplies I was not prepared to get. These 3 and 4 year olds need a variety of activities. This year in Pre-K is reminiscent of my first year teaching right of out college. I hope you will help me give these first time learners the experiences they deserve.
