This is the first year our school will be teaching straight sixth, seventh, and eighth grades. In order to be ready, our classroom and students are in need of things to make our newly assigned rooms inviting and they will also need things to help us learn about our new friends in the classroom. The Post-it notes will allow us to do different teambuilding/get-to-know-you activities as we learn the many awesome things about each other throughout the year (basic all about me info, thoughts on certain topics, beliefs, dreams, goals, appreciations, etc...)
This year my students, along with the whole school, will begin to use large binders as a way to be in charge of their learning by keeping organized. The three-ring binders, hole punchers, and dividers will help them achieve this goal that will eventually teach them strategies to use throughout life as well.
Next, personalized learning allows students to learn what they want, how they want and where they want. They are beginning to take ownership of their own learning. The headphones and standing workstations can help with this goal. Students can learn through video or text. Many students choose to learn through video and to do that they need headphones. Although several students have personal headphones, they need headphones they can keep at school. Headphones are also used to listen to books on tape including texts.
Personalized learning is about how students learn, but also about where they learn.
Students often need to stretch while learning. Having the standing workstations allows students to stand and stretch while they are learning. The workstations are also mobile so the students can learn wherever they want in the room; by the window, in a quiet corner or collaborating with friends.
