  • Taking Care of the Basics Leads to Learning Achievement

    Funded Jan 9, 2024

Your donation of basic materials for my students make more of a difference than you may believe.

To begin with, the supply of pencils provide me the opportunity to have them available for students who forget to bring their own to class. Many of my underprivileged students come to school each day struggling with other issues stemming from factors outside of my classroom. In this sense, it has always seemed trivial for me to pester them about forgetting a pencil.

The granola bars are greatly appreciated by my ever-growing 5th graders who benefit from this healthy snack that supplements their school breakfast. They are able to learn more effectively throughout the morning...happy tummy, engaged brain cells.

On behalf of my students, I thank you greatly.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Mier

  • Give Students the Basics and Watch Them Soar!

    Funded Jul 21, 2023

On behalf of my 5th grade students, I express my deepest gratitude for the donation of pencils, book markers and granola bars. I have serviced students at my campus for 15 years, and in those years, I have come to understand the needs of my economically disadvantaged community of learners.

Some do not eat breakfast at home and come to school hungry. Some are dealing with a challenging home life, so for me to become troubled that they don't come prepared with a pencil becomes trivial in the whole scheme of things.

Your partnership means a lot to me, personally. I love the support I feel as I work hard to meet the basic needs of my students.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Mier

  • Attend, Learn, and Win!

    Funded Nov 29, 2022

Research shows that effective instruction together with student attendance increases authentic learning. A reality for my borderland community is that our students miss many days due to family circumstances which include traveling back and forth from our neighboring city, Juarez, Mexico.

Our campus is adamant in inspiring attendance through incentives of various sorts. Your donation helped me reward attendance and the learning that resulted. My students are hard-working, and I am thankful to have partners like you supporting me as I continually motivate their educational growth.”

  • Books in Hands...Seeds in Hearts!

    Funded Jan 1, 2023

Your donation of books written by Sonia Sotomayor "Just Help" made an amazing impact with my students. I introduced the book during guided reading time in an integrated reading and social studies lesson. I immediately witnessed the engagement. Not only was the book content inspiring, it also allowed for a rich amount of connection and discussion.

My student group of 100% Latino applied their inferencing and synthesizing skills to realize that the author grew up in a culture and in a low economic community like theirs. This filled them with motivation to aim high as well.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Mier

  • Basic Writing Tools for Non-Basic Student Products

    Funded Dec 6, 2022

Sharpie markers and sidewalk chalk are the perfect writing tools that bring a smile to young learners. This absolutely happened in my classroom when your donations arrived!

The ultimate show of learning is when students are able to produce a product using their understanding of the standard learned. The Sharpies have been used to create literacy "graffiti" posters, mini-display end-of-the-unit projects, and walking gallery displays of learning.

The sidewalk chalk is used during our school's Spring Poetry Sidewalk Slam. My students' pride shines as bright as their chalked poems glimmering in the sun.

Thank you once again for your support.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Mier

  • Turn Up the Volume to Learning

    Funded Aug 19, 2022

Education, in the classroom, consists not only of explicit instruction provided by the educator, but it also includes multiple opportunities for students to practice their skills and to show their knowledge. This is done in various ways. One is to utilize digital resources. Yet, in a class of 25, it is hard for students to practice independently if it means listening to digital audio without headphones.

Your donation of headphones has made it possible for my students to effectively practice their skills and to further their learning.

Thank you for your support and generosity.”

  • Sharpening Students' Minds & Their Pencils Too!

    Funded Jul 14, 2022

Thank you for donating a much needed pencil sharpener for my students to use as they are getting ready for class. Effective learning doesn't happen unless students have the basic supplies and materials ready so that they can set their growth mindsets on "go".

We are a community of learners who value education. We feel even more motivated when we know that we have the support from donors like you to provide some of the essentials that are needed in the classroom. With sharpened pencils we vow to continue to sharpen our minds as well :)”

  • Buzz Us with Basics

    Funded Apr 6, 2022

My students seem to always await the lessons that are planned with engagement. Specifically, it becomes a treat when my students realize that they will show learning by being able to use the donated buzzers.

The buzzers are vibrantly colorful and truly eye-catching. Even more interesting is their respective sounds when pressed. Each color represents a different sound!! This is exciting for the students, but it's actually very beneficial for me so that I can distinguish who actually presses their buzzers first.

Once again, thank you for the donation. The buzzers are tools that increases engagement as I allow students to show learning in a creative way. I am able to formatively assess, all while the students simply think out their responses in share their knowledge in a fun manner.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Mier

  • Innovative Learning With Nearpod

    Funded Dec 25, 2019

My apologies for the late submission of this donation impact message. Little did I know, at the time of my project request, that my instructional year was going to become one like no other in my career. Nearpod, a digital instructional learning tool, became a golden resource as my students and I transitioned to virtual learning due to the pandemic.

Because of its interactive components, Nearpod truly engaged my students as they navigated some of the most difficult weeks of learning from home. They were able to learn, collaborate, create and show mastery of academic standards. They also were able to travel to far away places via the virtual reality tours that the resource had to offer. This was truly appreciated since many of my students were self-isolating with their families at home during these weeks.

In truth, the impact of this project was priceless!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Mier

  • Basic Supplies for a Super Start

    Funded Aug 10, 2020

I apologize that my expression of gratitude comes late. I am currently on the last days of winter break and I have to confess that the fall semester was a whirlwind of challenges. Teaching remotely 100% is taxing on my students and I find that it takes double the time to plan in order to effectively execute instruction in a digital platform.

Nevertheless, I find strength and hope knowing that there are individuals and organizations that extend their support to public education. Your donation of materials truly made a difference. My students are in the process of producing their very own original autobiography. The binder and dividers allow them to showcase their high quality writing and artifacts.

Please remain safe as we carry on in this pandemic.”
