My classroom is in the community of East Harlem in New York City. In my class there are 5 teenage boys aged 16-18. They all have Autism. Everyday we work on communication, job skills, social skills, and independence. We are working on goals that will help them transition from high school into the real world. My students are enamored with technology. One young man loves to draw and spends his free time looking up pictures of cartoons and skylines to recreate. Another loves Taylor Swift and Rihanna and spends his free time listening to their songs and teaching his classmates his latest dance moves. These are just a few of the daily occurrences in our classroom. Each student has a unique and fun personality, and each will tell you they look forward to coming to school everyday.
