My students are part of our program because they qualify as "at-risk," for one of several reasons. I have students who are English language learners, students whose parents may be or have been incarcerated, students who meet federal guidelines for free or reduced lunch, students who are a part of the foster system, and students who are being raised by grandparents. My goal is to expose them to new books, new experiences, and new ways of doing things, in order to broaden their horizons going forward. We also work with families to establish behavior plans for home and school. We cooperate with many local agencies that work in the homes of our students.
