  • Back to School Essentials

    Funded Aug 3, 2023

Most of you are family and I THANK YOU! Those of you who are not family, THANK YOU! I can't wait for my students to have headphones that work! Last year was a struggle trying to find a pair where both sides of the headphones would work. You'd think this would be something the district would provide, but they don't consistently.

I'm in constant need of laminating sheets. It's a hassle to send things to the office or to the administration building. My laminator broke mid-year so I had to borrow the teachers from across the hall which was NOT convenient.

My ice machine broke shortly after Christmas and the ENITRE hallway was affected. I cannot explain why ice is so loved by everyone but if it makes teachers and students happy, then let there be ice!

This year, I was unable to use the $350 the district gives me to purchase items for my classroom. I missed the date to submit what I needed. This happened due to it being the week my beloved Howie dog was extremely ill and died. Unfortunately, the district had no wiggle room on the submission date.

Thanks to ALL of you, I have some more of the necessities needed to make my school year run smoothly.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Kleinschmit

  • Sensory Room

    Funded Aug 9, 2022

Thank you for this gift! We are incredibly excited to announce we have officially opened our first ever, Sensory Room!

It is being utilized to provide our students with a therapeutic space that includes a variety of equipment for sensory needs.

The room is a place where students can go to calm and focus themselves so they can be better prepared for learning and interacting with others. It has been a welcomed workspace for our Special Education teachers, Occupational, Physical, and Speech Therapists, Behavior Specialists, Psychologists, and school staff.

Thank you again for contributing to this calming space!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Kleinschmit

  • Rat-a-tat-tat Sensory Input!

    Funded Sep 16, 2019

Thank you so much for the drumming pads, Do-a-Dot markers, and leaf cut-outs. My students have found so much enjoyment with the drumming pads. It provides proprioceptive input to the arms and hands as well as auditory input. I can see a difference already after the students have used these for a few minutes! The Do-a-Dot markers have allowed my students with physical disabilities to create their own exciting designs on paper. The leaf cut-outs are displayed in the widow and brighten up the room. We will be able to use these year after year as there was several in the pack.

Without you, the above wouldn't be possible. Than you!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Kleinschmit

  • Craving Sensory Input

    Funded Jan 7, 2019

I cannot thank you enough for the sandbox, balls, and sensory rolling pins. My students were delighted when the large boxes were delivered to our classroom. Thankfully, we had a few helpers that were able to come and build the sandbox for us. It's huge!

I selected the sandbox because I knew of 2 students who would specifically benefit from it. Not only has it been great for those 2 students, but for all my student. We have to set a timer and take turns playing in the "ball pit" as it's such a huge hit!

I'm excited to announce that it has also benefited several kids from other classrooms in the building to meet their sensory needs when they are having an "off" day. Thank you again for your generosity.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Kleinschmit

  • It's Easy to Learn When You Have the Right Materials!

    Funded May 3, 2018

I am so excited to have these materials in my classroom. I felt like a kid in a candy store the day they arrived! This year is very challenging with all the different medical and educational needs of my students. We are all so lucky to have people like you who care!

We have officially tried everything out! The My Space Car has provided an appropriate place for one of my students who likes to sit in boxes. She climbs into it several times a day to provide her with her sensory needs. The Fox in the Box game is providing tactile and visual practice for positional words. The game, Smart Toss, is a hit with all the students. They get to throw bean bags into holes that help with color, shape, and number identification. I could go on and on about each item we received!

Again, all these additional learning experiences would not be possible without you! I am forever grateful!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Kleinschmit

These materials are essential in providing my students with unique learning experiences. Due to the severity of disabilities, the range of ages and grade levels, and having each student for a total of three years, we often use the same materials over and over again. This causes many of my students to become disengaged. I want my students to succeed and the only way for them to do so is through hands-on materials. I know that these new and exciting materials will give them an opportunity to increase their social skills and academic achievement. The hands-on Sandpaper Numerals and Letter sets will provide my students with important tactile experiences for learning correct formation. The Beginner Pattern Blocks and Design and Drill Set will encourage hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills. The Interactive Reading Book Set 1 will encourage speech development and reading and listening skills. The My Safe Space Vehicle is super important for providing a soothing place for my students with processing issues or autistic spectrum disorder. All the materials selected for this project will give my students a new and different learning experience from what I normally provide. I'm excited to have fresh materials to expose them to.
