I See Me!
Funded May 15, 2024Thank you so very much for helping us fund this project! I am so very excited that our students will be able to pick up books to read and see themselves in the pages. They will see themselves as leaders, thinkers, doers, problem solvers, adventure seekers and more! Your gift will inspire our kiddos to see themselves as valuable contributors! Thank you!”

Text in Hands For All!
Funded Apr 18, 2024Thank you SO much for your support! I get to work with an amazing group of students who are so excited about reading! They have dug into our fictional and non fiction texts about dinosaurs. We are using a novel attached to this unit and really digging in to build strong reading comprehension skills.
Thank you for being a part of helping us achieve the goal of having texts in the hands of all of our students. Our goal is for them to take ownership of their learning and own skills that will be needed no matter where their path may go. THANK YOU for your support!”

Funded Feb 7, 2024Thank you so much for supporting this school project! Our kids are amazing! They are loving reading, and think it is amazing when they get their own copy of a book.
Our students have found that reading is fun. We are using that excitement to build up the idea that you can also learn while having fun. Students are reading, and then finding ways to celebrate an aspect they loved from the book. They have made posters and fliers to share their favorite books with their peers.
We are also building in comprehension skills for students. They don't even realize how much they are growing as they talk about, interact with, and respond to the texts they are reading.
Thank you for making this project come alive.
With thanks,

Earthquakes in the Early Morning: Putting Books in Hands
Funded Dec 20, 2023Thank you so much for putting books into the hands of our students! The students LOVEd having their own books to read as we worked on building our comprehension skills AND our love for reading. Being able to understand what you read makes reading that much better! The kids have loved reading so much, they are asking for times to stop for a "reading break" in order to catch up on their favorite books.
As many students realized the love of flipping pages and holding their own book, they are taking more and more books home from the class libraries. We love this "problem" of finding time to shop for books and for students asking to run to the school library as soon as they arrive at school. They want to read, and they want to read a lot! We are beyond thankful the passion for books has caught on and is growing!
Thank you for supporting this passion that can last a lifetime. We plan to add more titles to our classroomlibraries, so keep an eye out for future projects if you like supporting reading. :) We cannot do this without our community, and for you, we are forever thankful!”

Funded Dec 15, 2022Thank you so much for helping fund books for our amazing students! They loved reading the novel after finishing a unit of study about fossils. It was such a treat to incorporate the non-fiction texts they read throughout the unit and apply that knowledge to a fictional novel.
For many students, this was their first "real novel." That in and of itself is a huge deal to a second grader! The fact that they have grown into readers who can access the text on their own is a huge boost of confidence. Students worked throughout the novel study to make connections to the text. They used the text to find answers to open ended and multiple choice questions. Much of the work they did was supported in a whole group lesson, but students had an opportunity to work independently each day.
Thank you for being a part of growing our students as readers and learners.”

Funded Dec 31, 2022Thank you so much for making reading FUN! Our students exclaimed with delight when the Magic Tree House Books were given out. They have so enjoyed entering the world of adventure with Annie and Jack. Students who said they didn't like reading are now asking when we get to read more! Thank you for being a part of getting our students excited about reading!
Not only are our students excited about reading, but they are building comprehension skills that will last a lifetime! They are learning that reading is both fun and educational, even when reading a fictional book. We incorporated nonfiction texts into our unit to encourage students to learn more about those things that are new and to constantly ask questions and seek knowledge.”

Too Cool for School
Funded Jun 18, 2022Thank you so much for the fans for our students! Students are already benefitting from having cool air circulating in their classrooms. Living in NC, the summers are super hot, and the Fall and Spring are warm, too. Your fans will allow air to move in the classrooms, keeping the rooms cool and the focus on learning. On the days the air goes out, the fans will allow learning to continue. It is hard to focus on your work when your brow is sweating and you cannot wait to get some relief from the heat. The fans you provided will move air and keep learning moving as well!
We will finish our summer learning soon, and then buckle down for a great new year of learning!”

Funded Mar 27, 2018Thank you so much for donating headphones to our students. The headphones allow students to work in a more focused manner, blocking out background and residule noises. It oftern allows students to focus on individualized tasks while not feeling self conscious.
The headphones have been particularly helpful during virtual learning. As students needed to work on laptops, headphones were required to allow students to hear their teacher.
Many students love the headphones. They were soft and served as a way to focus. Thank you so much for providing such a great service to so many students.”

Funded Mar 15, 2016I cannot begin to explain the joyful shouts that arose from my students when I told them that the copies of Charlotte's Web they were holding in their hands were theirs to keep! They were excited to begin reading our final read aloud for the year. They had no idea that this special book was theirs to love forever! Instead of reading portions of the book on a sheet of paper and underlining the evidence for their answers, students will use the books themselves. Many have asked to use my special markers to write their names on the inside cover. The books are treasures!
A surprising impact of the books has been seen in the reenergizing of the teachers! It is easy to get a bit tired in these last few weeks of school. Learning that so many of you gave so selflessly in just a 24 period has touched my team deeply. We adore our babies, but to know that you all believe in them as well is powerful!
Thank you for loving on our babies and giving them a gift to carry throughout their lives...a love a reading, and for many, their very first personal book to start their lifelong libraries!”

Funded Mar 9, 2016The headphones have allowed all of my students to access technology in the classroom! We use a few programs which help the students work at their targeted level in math and reading. These programs (Dreambox, Front Row Math, and RAZ Kids) have sound. Without the headphones the classroom would be very noisy and distracting to my more sensitive learners. The headphones allow the students to listen to stories being read in their native language while reading the story in English. Students are able to view tutorials for math skills they are struggling with, or enjoy a celebratory arcade "game" when a tough math level has been completed.
The headphones are even nicer than we expected! They are cushioned, which makes them more comfortable for the students. Students are able to adjust the volume in each ear, which has helped two students who suffer from some hearing loss. Although slight, they have remarked about how nice it is to hear everything from the headphones!
Thank you for allowing me the flexibility to have some students working on targeted skills on ipads while other students work independently or with me in small groups to master skills or receive enrichment. The headphones are a true gift to our class!”

Mrs. Helms
