Students will be able to use the Chromebook for various reasons (research, fact-finding, scholarship applications), but its main function would be as the platform for our daily classroom reporter in my government classes. This year I have implemented a station for a classroom reporter (a new student reporter every day), and this student will be responsible for bringing real-time data and facts into the daily government lessons. This could include updating the classroom on the progression of the Bill in Congress to conducting simple fact-finding research, such as who is the oldest Supreme Court justice. The reporter would be continuously interacting with the teacher and class, updating them with real-time facts and news as we progress through the lesson. At the same time the student reporter is collecting and presenting data and facts to the class, they will be analyzing the sources in which they are using. Today, more than ever, it is vital students know where to find reliable sources, and be able to identify any biases in those sources. Students will be able to dig deeper into the facts with this Chromebook and not just take for face value what the media and/or government want them to know. This Chromebook will be the device that can usher in positive change in each student. Students will understand the importance of government, because they see its every day real-life connections. They will learn to understand they can do more and find the facts themselves. These students will be voters in a blink of an eye, and this device can help develop more informed, productive citizens.
