Scholars Need Bookshelves to Access Their Reading Materials
Funded Dec 15, 2017Thank You so much for your generous donation to my classroom. The students were so excited to see our new bookshelf arrive into the classroom. They gathered on the carpet with big smiles and wiggled all over with enthusiasm as the janitor open the large box. We took votes on where we should sit the bookcase in our classroom. A bar graph was created to analysis the data gathered and a decision was quickly made. The students together shouted, "the front of the classroom." The front of the classroom is where the bookcase sits. It has became the focal point of our room.
The students visit the bookcase daily. They are so excited to see the new seasonal and thematic books added to the shelf while they are away from the classroom. The bookcase has made reading an exciting time in our room. The books can be easily accessed by all.
Our classroom motto is "You must read to Succeed." The students will approach me with a big smile and say, "I can read this by myself. I'm going to be a scholar one day!" With this generous donation the students have developed a love for reading and I know they will all become successful scholars.”

Learning to Read Through Our Eyes and Ears!
Funded Mar 9, 2016Thank you so much for your generous donation. I have incorporated the Listening Center and the Phonemic Awareness activity kit into our Balanced Literacy Stations. The children are using the activity cards to learn rhyming, beginning letter sounds, blends and phonemes. I just completed progress monitoring on my students. I was so excited to see that their letter-sound recognition had increased and they could also identify basic rhymes in a field of three. I strongly feel these gains can be positively related to the materials you purchased for my classroom.
The sense of accomplishment that the students displayed on their faces is what we have been striving for all year. They are now able to succeed as an auditory learner and their frustration levels have significantly lowered. When the timer rings for Balanced Literacy Stations to begin they are excited and eagerly await their turn at the Listening Center.
The students with my assistance have learned how to use the Phonemic Awareness cards and CD player. Now that the scaffolding has occurred, next they will begin using the center independently. This independent learning center will allow me the opportunity to facilitate another center and reach more students at one time. Our classroom has became a fun place to learn early reading skills instead of a place to struggle.”

We Love to Learn Reading and Math Hands-On!
Funded Mar 29, 2016I have incorporated the materials that was purchased for my classroom into our Reading and Math stations. The students are using the math puzzles, ten frame magnets and quiz cards to strengthen their math fact fluency and number sense. The magnetic sound card sorts, alphabet stamps and sight word fishing game has been integrated during our Balanced Literacy stations. These reading materials have improved the student's sight word recognition by 25% and boosted their confidence in reading.
The students have not only increased their confidence in learning but also their self-esteem. Every day the students are so excited walking into the classroom and can't wait to see what new materials they will be using to enhance their learning. I just completed progress monitoring on all of my students. The data showed an increase in sight word recognition, letter-sound identification, and number sense, counting with meaning and basic number operations within 10.
The students that I instruct are hands on learners. These students are unable to learn the traditional way. With my assistance, the students have been taught how to use the materials during Reading and Math stations. I will now set up multiple stations with the new materials for the students to rotate through. This will afford me the opportunity to pull each student aside and provide them direct Reading and Math instruction while the others are actively engaged in materials to enrich their learning.”
